Kellan Lutz Adds Mystery To Search For ‘Eclipse’ Director. Is Male Director On Tap For Third ‘Twilight’ Film?
09 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
MTV By Larry Carroll
Over the last few months, a lot of cyber-ink has been spilled writing about the revolving door of “Twilight” series directors. And a lot has also been written about the belief by some Twilighters that women filmmakers are better equipped to depict Stephenie Meyer’s tender love story between a vampire and a human. All this made it even more interesting when I interviewed Kellan Lutz recently, and he revealed that Summit did in fact have a filmmaker in their sights for “Eclipse” that wasn’t Drew Barrymore.
And to paraphrase Austin Powers: It was a man, baby!
“I actually heard rumors that they did have a third director, and he fell out, and then they saw more people,” Lutz said of the director for “Eclipse.” “I would say [the name] if I could remember it. But I know it was a guy.”
It’s no secret that “New Moon” director Chris Weitz won’t be directing the third “Twilight” movie or that sometime around when this mysterious male director dropped out, Summit’s search considered Drew Barrymore.
Regardless, Lutz said the argument that only females should direct “Twilight” films is nonsense. “I don’t think there’s any difference between male or female directors, as far as who can relate,” insisted Lutz, who plans to have a pajama party at his apartment for friends on March 20th the night that the “Twilight” DVD is being released at midnight. “There’s no big difference of who can do what, or who is better with romance. I did like how Catherine [Hardwicke] did ‘Twilight,’ because it is that Romeo and Juliet type of movie.”
Clearly, the mysterious male “Eclipse” director couldn’t have been a name in the class of Spielberg, Fincher, Del Toro or the like, since Lutz couldn’t recall his name. But still, it’s interesting that Summit is willing to continue with testosterone-driven helmers behind the camera and now Twilighters everywhere will always wonder who that mysterious dropped-out dude was.

Dakota Fanning Takes a Shine to New Moon
09 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
E!Online by Gina Serpe
It's official: Dakota Fanning is sinking her teeth into New Moon.
Nearly two months after it leaked out that the actress was in negotiations to star in Twilight's would-be blockbuster sequel comes word that Fanning will indeed take on the role of the vampiric Jane in the next installment of the Stephenie Meyer franchise.
The deceptively angelic-looking and of course immortal Jane, a member of the ancient Italian clan of vampires known as the Volturi, enters the frame when Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his broody, squeal-inducing coif make their way over to Italy in the wake of...well, what can only be described as a spoiler alert.
Back in January, Fanning told E! News that she is a "big fan" of the series. And, it seems, of now costar Kristen Stewart.
In addition to New Moon, Fanning and Stewart will team up on the The Runaways, a drama following the all-girl punk band of the same name. Stewart plays Joan Jett in the film, while Fanning plays lead singer Cherie Currie. That film shoots in late spring.
In the meantime, the Chris Weitz-directed New Moon begins filming this month. It has a release date of Nov. 20.

Kristen Stewart: The Truth About Twilight, Rob Pattinson and the Fans
07 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
E!Online by Marc Malkin
Good news, fanggirls: Kristen Stewart says there will be a fourth Twilight movie. She can't imagine why there wouldn't be a big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, the last novel in her young vampire series.
As we all know by now, Twilight was one of last year’s biggest hits, New Moon starts shooting any minute now, and the studio most recently announced they've officially started work on developing Eclipse.
"We all really hope there is going to be a number four," Stewart, 18, told me yesterday afternoon when we sat down to chat in a suite at L.A.'s Sofitel hotel. "I'm pretty confident that the fans aren’t going to all of a sudden lose interest. The only case that a fourth one wouldn’t be made is if all of a sudden people stopped caring, and I really don't think that's going to happen."

TWILIGHT star KRISTEN STEWART will be belting out her own rock tunes when she plays JOAN JETT in upcoming biopic RUNAWAYS.
The actress, who showed off her singing skills while performing karaoke with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson in Japan last month (Feb09), insists fans will be able to hear her voice on the soundtrack for the new film, which chronicles the success of Jett's all-girl band.
She says, "If it’s not going to be Joan, it's going to be me."

It's (finally!) official: Dakota Fanning is getting her fangs.
The 14-year-old actress is set to star in New Moon as Jane a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi, a rep for Summit Entertainment confirms to PEOPLE.
Filming of Twilight sequel is set to begin in Vancouver later this month. The movie hits theaters in November.
"We did just get a script. We're shooting the rest of the films back to back," says Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie Hale in the film. "(Director) Chris Weitz is amazing and I think it's going to be wonderful."

Kristen Stewart Interview Twilight New Moon
05 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
Movies Online By: Sheila Roberts
We went head to head with Kristen Stewart to talk about the upcoming Twilight Movie Sequel! MoviesOnline caught up with our favorite actress, Kristen Stewart, this morning at the Los Angeles press day for her new film, “The Cake Eaters.” Of course, we asked her about the latest on Twilight and the upcoming New Moon which starts shooting later this month. We also gave her the opportunity to set the record straight on the Nylon interview.
Kristen is a fabulous person and we really appreciated her time. Here’s what she had to tell us:
Q: Since the Nylon interview came out, do you feel like you’re playing with fire when you talk about the Twilight fans?
KRISTEN STEWART: No, because I love the Twilight fans. I have literally never said anything remotely negative about them. You have to stay away from certain key words that can be twisted into a negative connotation, like the word ‘psychotic’ apparently is really bad. I don’t understand why. I mean, I feel like it’s a really humble position to take that it’s not normal to find yourself in a situation where there are 5,000 screaming girls and you’re literally like fodder. I feel like that’s not normal and it’s not something I should just say, “Oh yeah, it’s really cool. I love ‘em.” I feel like everything that I said in that Nylon interview, if you actually read the whole thing, was very honest and genuine and talking about something that I am so immersed in and have absolutely no control over and I’m just trying to stay honest and true to something that I care about. Yeah, that’s it.
Q: Well allow me to take you in the proper context. When do you start shooting the next installment of the Twilight saga, New Moon?
KRISTEN STEWART: Very soon. In a couple weeks. March 23rd I think is the first official day of shooting.
Q: Are you excited about the next one? Is there a part of it you’re looking most forward to shooting?
KRISTEN STEWART: Yeah. I mean, it’s interesting. It’s a completely different story. It’s like it entirely undermines the first. Edward is gone and, for me, that was the whole story. It’s hard for me to get past like… I don’t know how Bella is going to deal with that. She matures a lot. It’s a much more painful story than the first one. It’s actually quite devastating. It’s a smaller scale as well. She’s very solitary for quite a while so that will be interesting. I’m excited about that.
Be sure to check back later today for our exciting full interview with Kristen to learn all about her new movie, “The Cake Eaters,” which opens in theaters on March 13th.

The Best 'Twilight' Cast Performances You Haven't Seen
03 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
MTV By Larry Carroll
Robert Pattinson in 'How to Be,' Kristen Stewart in 'Cake Eaters' and more make our top five.
You've memorized the books, you'll be in line for the midnight DVD-release party, and you have "Kellan 4-Ever" tattooed across one (or both) buttocks. But are you fully prepared to be a true Twilighter?
First, you need to bask in the versatile skills the franchise's stars will depend on as they film "New Moon" and "Eclipse," practically back-to-back, beginning this month. With that in mind, we've compiled our top-five "Twilight" cast performances you haven't seen:
5. Kristen Stewart in "The Cake Eaters" In this sweet, tiny little film, KStew steals the show as Georgia Kaminski, a terminally ill teen hoping to find love while grappling with the nerve-system-attacking disease Friedreich's ataxia. The potential pitfalls are obvious, as Stewart slurs her speech, limps around and depends on others to help her maneuver. But the talented actress sheds light on the affliction, giving a performance that is tender, sweet and most disarmingly sexy.
Where to See It: The movie opens in limited release March 13.
4. Edi Gathegi on "Life on Mars" Sadly, this trippy, time-traveling cop drama was recently canceled. Its short life, however, gave us a great cameo by the man Twilighters know as Laurent. Stepping in for a flashback of an older character, Gathegi's performance built to a big payoff basically, he had to make the audience care for his character as much as the show's star did. In a brief amount of time, the endearing Gathegi brought the goods.
Where to See It: Pray that the episode, titled "Things to Do in New York When You're Dead," gets rerun or that season one eventually gets a DVD release.
3. Robert Pattinson in "How to Be" In the months since RPattz's career explosion, this tiny independent film has become a phenomenon. Filmed in early 2007, the flick stars Rob as a young musician seeking wisdom from a self-help guru and "Twilight" fans have been traveling hundreds of miles for its current cinema tour. "Cinequest we just did; it went really well," producer Justin Kelly said of a recent date at a San Jose film festival. "It's insane; people fly across three states to see it. It's fantastic."
Where to See It: The Independent Film Channel's Festival Direct service will make the film available April 29 on cable providers Bright House, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Insight and Time Warner. "We're supporting IFC's release with the cinema tour," Kelly explained.
2. Billy Burke on "The Closer" If you're like me, you see "Matlock," "Columbo" and "Monk" and wonder: What's the point of watching if the star always catches the criminal? After years of suffering in silence through my wife's "Closer" obsession, I was recently rewarded by a tour-de-force cameo from Burke. Bella Swan's father broke out as Philip Stroh, a smooth-talking lawyer who might be in cahoots with his murderer/rapist client. By the end of the episode, Burke had shown tremendous range and walked away with a devilish glee a performance that has haunted Kyra Sedgwick's homicide chief ever since.
Where to See It: The episode, titled "Power of Attorney," can be found on TNT's Web site.
1. Anna Kendrick in "Rocket Science" Admittedly, it might be the most visible performance out of the five listed here. Still, Twilighters who haven't seen Kendrick's breakout performance in this 2007 indie flick need to put down their copy of Kristen Stewart's unauthorized biography and get to Blockbuster immediately. Cast as fast-talking debate queen Ginny Ryerson, Kendrick is nothing short of a revelation.
Where to See It: On DVD.

Vogue

How did a suburban mother of three become the next big thing in publishing with her chaste-but-erotic Twilight series? Robert Sullivan meets Stephenie Meyer.
She may prefer to write late at night while her family sleeps, but for the record, there is not a lot about Stephenie Meyer, author of the better-than-best-selling Twilight series, that screams vampire. Yes, she has long dark hair and earthy brown eyes, casually highlighted this afternoon at her home in Arizona by a black Banana Republic cashmere sweater and jeans, but she lacks the arrogance associated with vampireness. Her vibe is homey; she sits you down on her living-room couch, one leg curled up under her, and starts talking as if you had been in the midst of conversation for years. She's surrounded by her sons' toys, games, and compasses (her husband is a Cubmaster), as well as her workher office is in the front hall. There are family photos and a few paintings of the Washington coast, where Twilight takes place. The Phoenix neighborhood where she lives, a kind of desert suburb, is the opposite of the Washington coast, and lately she and her husband have been taking their three boys (ages six, eight, and eleven) on vacation to the Seattle area once in a while, to see green. "It's nice to show them that there are places where things are alive," she says.
