Robert Pattinson Brings 'Twilight' To The Oscars

MTV By Brian Warmoth
'It's insane,' the British actor says amid the red-carpet hoopla.
Reports that "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson would appear at the 81st annual Academy Awards were confirmed as the actor took to the red carpet and then the Kodak Theatre stage on Sunday night to present a montage of romance scenes.
Pattinson introduced the clips alongside "Mamma Mia!" actress Amanda Seyfried, confirming his current breakout status and watching a brief cut to "Twilight," which was included in the retrospective alongside "The Wrestler," "Iron Man," "High School Musical" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
"It's insane," Pattinson told MTV News in an exclusive interview from the red carpet before the ceremony. "When they first told me about this, I was like, 'No, no, no, no, no, you're joking — or I'm going to have to do something really stupid like get gunged [slimed]!"
Pattinson appeared to be taking in all the excitement surrounding him at his first trip to the Oscars, ready to make the most of his newly found spotlight. "I don't know what to get out of it," he confessed.
Pattinson arrived in true Oscar fashion, sporting a sleek, standard black tuxedo and wearing his grown-out hair lightly tossed around with a subtle patch of scruff on his chin.
Once onstage, the actor spoke briefly with Seyfried about the subject of love in film. The pair recalled the prevalence of romance in popular film, dating back through 1927's "Wings," the first movie to win a Best Picture Oscar when the awards were presented in 1929.
"What it is, how to get it, how to keep it and what to do when it goes incredibly wrong," Pattinson listed among the perspectives on love that have been addressed over the years on screen. As recent participants in unique romance tales, he and Seyfried noted their own contributions. The London-born star touched on his specific plight as Edward Cullen in "Twilight."
"I had to become a vampire to find the right woman," he joked.
Ashley Greene Eager To ‘Shrink’ Sundance With Kevin Spacey

As we turn the calendar page, MTV is spending this entire week looking forward to the most promising films of 2009. Keep checking back for lists of our most anticipated blockbusters, comedies and so forth – but today we kick off the festivities with a very special list: The 10 Most Eagerly Anticipated 2009 Films From the “Twilight” Stars.
One of the entrants is “Shrink,” an under-the-radar indie that began building buzz recently when it was chosen for this month’s Sundance Film Festival. Within hours, Twilighters began wondering about this dramedy that stars not only Kevin Spacey and Keke Palmer, but their very own Ashley Greene.
“’Shrink’ I did a while ago. I’m excited that it’s going,” explained the artist sometimes known as Alice Cullen when we caught up with her recently. “But we all had an idea that it would – the cast is amazing.”
Die-hard Twilighters are already making plans to trek to Park City to see the first showings of the film (and KStew’s “Adventureland”), which made the appreciative actress’ smile grow even larger than usual. “I’ve got my own fanbase; that’s amazing!” she laughed. “That’s why I love my life right now.”
She did, however, caution such fans that her “Shrink” appearance is a brief one. “It’s really not a large part at all,” Greene revealed. “I met with the director, and I didn’t get the original part I was going out for. But he liked me enough and was nice enough to put me in the film as a character named Lucy.”
In the film, Spacey plays a psychiatrist to some of Hollywood’s top stars and agents – and on the periphery of his la-la-land friends and patients, Greene’s character comes into play. “You see her in [the Hollywood talent agency] CAA, and there’s this whole thing about a Hardee’s commercial girl. It’s very bizarre,” she said. “But I’m excited to be a part of it, with such a great cast.”
And that cast is top-lined by the double Oscar winner who created Verbal Kint, Lester Burnham, Jack Vincennes and others. “I’ll be starstruck, because I didn’t get to actually meet Kevin,” Greene revealed. “When I was working, my scene wasn’t with him. I’ll feel like one of his little fans.”
That is, if she can make it to Sundance to help promote “Shrink” in the middle of her busy schedule shooting “Warrior” (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/12/19/twilight-siblings-ashley-greene-and-kellan-lutz-reunite-as-love-interests-in-warrior/) opposite Kellan Lutz. “I’m going to try [to get to Park City] if it doesn’t conflict with the film I’m doing now,” she explained, promising she’d meet up with MTV if she gets up there. “My manager is going and has a house up there, and we’re planning on going. If possible, I want to go at least for a day or two, if not the whole time.”
'Twilight' Sequel 'New Moon' Will Be Dark And 'Spectacular,' Stars And Director Say

With werewolves, motorcycles, Italy and cliff-diving, the cast and crew have their work cut out for them.
And so, the lion fell in love with the lamb. But as $70.5 million worth of moviegoers watched the closing scenes of "Twilight" this past weekend, one thought unavoidably filled their love-struck minds: Where do Edward, Bella and all the other undead denizens of Forks go from here?
As Twilighters are all too happy to point out, author Stephenie Meyer has already penned three smash sequels to her intimate ode to human-immortal romance. The first, "New Moon," got the green light for production this past weekend, less than 24 hours after "Twilight" began breaking box-office records. The best-selling sequel tells a decidedly darker story that has Bella receiving a nasty paper cut, getting attacked by one of her potential in-laws and becoming an adrenaline junkie while an in-hiding Edward teeters on the edge of suicide.

CBS Evening News: Teen Novel Fans Thirsty For Vampire Film
More than 600 frantic fans lined up early - some waited overnight - to get a glimpse of the glitter at the premiere of "Twilight," the latest vampire movie to take a bite out of Hollywood.
The "Twilight" story is based on a four-book series by Stephany Meyer that has sold more than 17 million copies. It is being called "Harry Potter" for girls, CBS News correspondent Sandra Hughes reports.
"I used to never read and then I started this and ... now I read all the time," one fan said.
If you haven't heard of "Twilight," you may be in the Twilight Zone. The movie, which is expected to open big this weekend, tells the story of a family of vampires that resists the urge to dine on humans.

'Twilight' Tuesday: What's Kristen Stewart's Favorite Part About Being Bella? 'I Get To Kiss Edward Cullen!'

Actress says she would date Eric if she went to Forks High: 'I like nerds.'
BEVERLY HILLS, California — With only a handful of "Twilight" Tuesdays remaining, it's time to pay tribute to the woman who started it all: Kristen Stewart.
Much like Britney Spears, she began "Twilight" at the beginning of this year as not a girl, not yet a woman. Although she had the best pedigree of any of her co-stars ("Panic Room," "Zathura," "The Messengers") and was already regarded as a fast-rising Hollywood star, Stewart was still young enough to require a shortened schedule and on-set educator. After celebrating her 18th birthday with the Cullen clan by her side, such restrictions were lifted, and now Kristen is ready for her November 21 graduation to full-fledged leading-lady status.

'I would be fighting these almost, like, church giggles,' she says of filming scenes with RPattz.
SANTA MONICA, California — Happy "One Month Until 'Twilight' Day," everybody! If you haven't gotten yourself a cake yet, please rush out to your nearest bakery immediately.
To help you celebrate, indie darling Anna Kendrick stopped by the MTV studios recently for her very own "Twilight" Tuesday. A fun, sweet, down-to-earth actress whose career is moving along almost as quickly as she spoke in last year's "Rocket Science," Kendrick was eager to talk to us about her role as Bella's bud Jessica Stanley, making googly eyes at Rob Pattinson, and her undying love for things wrapped in pancakes.
Kellan Lutz On The Book Rock Of ‘Twilight’ And ‘Harry Potter’

Twilight has one up on Harry Potter, at least when it comes to the music — at least one member of the cast of “Twilight” has heard Twi-rock. (Daniel Radcliffe, however, has not heard wizard rock… yet).
“It’s such a cool idea,” said Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in “Twilight.” “I love this stuff! The Bella Cullen Project, they’re doing awesome.”
Lutz counts himself equally a fan of HP and Twilight, and is glad to see that wizard rock has opened the door for book rock. “I think there’s a lot of potential with all the fans that are out there,” he said. “How much they care about it, how passionate they are, it’s really cool to see.”

HOLLYWOOD — As fans from Boston to Bombay now know, the stars of "Twilight" recently reunited to shoot some additional scenes for director Catherine Hardwicke. Although MTV uncovered some of the new info when we caught up with the stars at the VMAs and other events around Hollywood, many details remain a mystery.
At the party to celebrate Teen Vogue's Young Hollywood issue, we spoke with stars Kristen Stewart (Bella), Nikki Reed (Rosalie) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob). They had new details to reveal about the multiple scenes they just shot — as well as their rapidly accelerating level of fame building up to the movie's November 21 release.

'Twilight' Tuesday: Kellan Lutz Recalls How He Almost Wasn't Cast As Belligerent 'Goofball' Emmett

Like his character, the actor can't wait to sink his teeth into a good fight.
PORTLAND, Oregon — When it comes to "Twilight" Tuesday here at MTV, we try to operate on one simple motto: Ask, and ye shall receive.
In virtually every article we've written covering the upcoming "Twilight" movie, there's one comment we can count on receiving: "Give us more Kellan Lutz!" And although the 23-year-old actor isn't a household name, a quick search of sites like Kellmett Happens and the Twilight Lexicon Forum show the type of love that has had Twilighters sending gift baskets to Lutz ever since he landed the role of burly teddy bear Emmett Cullen.
'Twilight' Tuesday: Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg Gives 'Spider Monkey' Credit To Robert Pattinson

Plus: Bella and Edward's forbidden-love story line was inspired by 'Brokeback Mountain,' she says.
SANTA MONICA, California — When Stephenie Meyer originally conceived of her "Twilight" universe, it's highly unlikely that she was inspired by spider monkeys, Channing Tatum and the cowboys from "Brokeback Mountain." But for this week's "Twilight" Tuesday, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg stopped by the MTV News offices to remind us of the personality quirks that have crept into the Cullens — and the collaborative process necessary for turning a best-selling novel into a hit Hollywood movie.
The veteran writer/producer behind hits both twisted ("Dexter") and teen-friendly ("The O.C.," "Step Up"), Rosenberg comes across in person as a smart, eager-to-please writer who is genuinely proud to have earned the Meyer seal of approval. In this exclusive interview about her screenplay for the film that finally hits theaters November 21 (as if you needed reminding), Rosenberg gave us a revealing peek at several new scenes and characters, the film's "forward-thinking" ending, and the surprising reasons why we'll soon be seeing an Edward who wishes he knew how to quit Bella.
Three of my favorite things in this entire world are movies, baseball (Go Red Sox!) and the “Twilight” universe. So needless to say, I’m really friggin’ excited about the one scene in November’s movie that will combine all three.
This week’s “Twilight” Tuesday focuses on the very cool Peter Facinelli, who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen. While speaking with him, I got super excited when he revealed an ad lib he put into the baseball scene, revealing Carlisle’s history of hanging out with Babe Ruth — and, much like myself, he cited the superpowered sequence as the moment he’s most eager to see on the big screen.
