Robert Pattinson tells Risky Biz his thoughts on 'New Moon'
20 May 2009 | Comments (0)
The Hollywood Reporter
Robert Pattinson, who soared to global stardom in "Twilight" and has just committed to a screen adaptation of the fourth installment in Stephenie Meyer's best-selling series, is more than just a pretty face. The actor, who didn't go to acting school, talks to The Hollywood Reporter U.K. Bureau Chief Stuart Kemp in Cannes about how long it might take to fall in love, why he doesn't care who directs him as long as it's a good script and losing his car.
THR: Have you been to Cannes before?
Pattinson: I came here on holiday once when I was 12 but not since. I wouldn't appreciate it (here) as a holiday now.
THR: Let's talk about "Twilight." There are four books. Is the plan for you to do them all?
Pattinson: I have committed to the fourth one, "Breaking Dawn." But I don't know quite when Summit is going to shoot it because of my schedule.
THR: How is the script for "New Moon" different from the second book?
Pattinson: It kind of plays relatively close to it. I would still describe it as being a sort of supporting role (to Bella's story). I think it would have been a bit cheesy if it had just stayed as a voiceover part as my character is a voice in her head in the second book. They've shot these hallucination bits of the film. You're playing a figment of Bella's imagination and I was trying to do it in a really 2-D kind of way. I hope it doesn't come out flat and boring (laughs).
Robert Pattinson sheds "Twilight" image in film

Reuters By Alex Dobuzinskis
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Twilight" fans fell in love with Robert Pattinson as a vampire who makes girls swoon. But in "Little Ashes," which opens on Friday, the actor explores a relationship that could reshape his heartthrob image.
Pattinson, who turns 23 this month, plays surrealist painter Salvador Dali at a youthful stage in his life when he had a sexually charged relationship with poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
Pattinson took the role long before he became a sensation with legions of adoring, young female fans captivated by his portrayal of vampire Edward Cullen in last year's global box office smash, "Twilight."
Industry watchers say the success of the movie, based on a popular book series by author Stephenie Meyer, was largely due to girls imagining they -- not the film's heroine Bella Swan -- were being wooed by the fanged Cullen.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Make People 100 Most Beautiful List

Zac Efron, Nick and Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift also make the list for 2009.
It probably comes as no surprise to Twilighters everywhere that the movie's stars, Robert Pattinsonand Kristen Stewart, made People's annual 100 Most Beautiful List.
"I don't get it," Pattinson said about his newly minted status as a heartthrob. "It's funny, you look the same for years, and no one ever mentions it. Then suddenly it's a big deal."
Pattinson and Stewart weren't the only teen idols who made the list, which also includes Nick and Joe Jonas, Channing Tatum and "17 Again" star Zac Efron, who revealed his secret to staying beautiful: "Backpacking, hiking, surfing, swimming, playing tennis — things that get you active and are also fun."
This year's cover girl is cancer survivor Christina Applegate, and pop star Christina Aguilera heads up the "Beauty After Baby" category. Aguilera described how her son, Max, changed her for the better. "I'm a total vampire — but Max makes me go out into the sun or to the pool in the middle of the day. He brings out a different side of me that I'm really starting to enjoy."
Starlets Frieda Pinto, Demi Lovato, Emma Roberts, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift also made the list. "It's important to be comfortable with who you are and go natural once in a while," Swift said about her style.
"Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen, who is also in the rock band the Pretty Reckless, found her way onto the list, but she doesn't get why. "I have a really strange body," she said. "I'm tall, but I'm all legs, like three-fourths of my body."
Other Beautiful People of 2009 include Barack and Michelle Obama, Keke Palmer, Hugh Jackman, Angelina Jolie, Dev Patel, Tina Fey, Rashida Jones and the ladies of "90210."
Why Rob Pattinson Almost Gave Up Acting
29 Apr 2009 | Comments (0)
People.com By Lisa Ingrassia
For many Twilight fans, it's hard to imagine life without Robert Pattinson after his brooding performance in the 2008 film.
But Pattinson, 22, who stars in the independent film How To Be, almost decided to change his career focus, the film's director tells PEOPLE.
"He was thinking about giving up acting and maybe doing music solely when this role [in How To Be] came along," the film's director, Oliver Irving, tells PEOPLE. "He wanted to play the roles he wasn't getting."
Irving says that for Pattinson, being cast as the lead of role of an awkward, quirky young musician who hires a self-help guru to come live with him "got him back into the swing of things again." Irving adds that after the Harry Potter films, in which Pattinson played Cedric Diggory, "He was looking for something more challenging."
Among the challenges for Pattinson in How To Be, which filmed prior to Twilight, were playing the guitar, harmonica, and, for the director, muting his good looks.
"I said, 'You're banned from cutting your hair between now and the shoot,'" says Irving. "We had to give him the most awkward haircut we possibly could, and we cut his trouser length a little bit too high. Things like that played down his apparent good looks."
Honing his musical skills, however, came naturally to the actor. "He downplayed how good he was," says Irving. While playing the guitar and harmonica, Irving says, "A lot of the time he would turn out to have a really good technique and we told him he needed to play it more simply."
Irving says he isn't surprised that Pattinson's star has risen since the film, which is available on demand on IFC Festival Direct on April 29. "He has a playfulness and naivety that he was able to inject into the character. He's very down to earth and unpretentious. I think that's probably what makes him appealing."
While “Twilight” actresses Kristen Stewart, Rachelle Lefevre, Ashley Greene and others recently made their own career breakthroughs, such fan madness is old-hat for Emma Watson. Which is all the more amazing when you consider that the world-famous actress otherwise known as Hermione Granger is still only 18 years old.
Recently, we caught up with the sweet-smiling superstar her eagerness to watch “Half-Blood Prince,” and whether she’d ever bare all for a role a la Daniel Radcliffe. And naturally, we had to ask the star of this generation’s first book-to-film teen blockbuster series what she thought about the “Twilight” phenomenon.
“I don’t know much [about it],” she admitted. “I haven’t seen the film.”
Nevertheless, Watson said she was thrilled to see her hunky “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix” co-star graduate to become one of Hollywood’s most promising young leading men since, well, Daniel Radcliffe. “Obviously, I know Rob,” she explained. “I’m just gob-smacked by the level of excitement and hype around ‘Twilight.’ I’m very happy for Rob that it’s been so successful.”
And although RPattz likes to play up his shock and confusion over all those shrieking, Sharpie-waving fans, Emma insisted that she knew all along that he’d someday become like the Beatles all rolled into one. “Of course I did; he is incredibly handsome!” she grinned. “He is a very, very handsome man, so I’m not too surprised.”
'Twilight' hunk Kellan Lutz's secret passion, Rob Pattinson's nerves, Taylor Lautner's bod
08 Apr 2009 | Comments (0)
Los Angeles Times by Elizabeth Snead
"Twilight" hunk Kellan Lutz attended a fashiony event Tuesday night -- the swanky private dinner party at the Chateau Marmont -- hosted by tennis babe Maria Sharapova to launch the Maria Sharapova Sporting Collection for Cole Haan.
Besides the dishy dimpled Cullen vampire, the bash was populated by celebs including the uber-hot stylist Jen Rade, stars Nicole Richie, Ellen Pompeo, Josh Hartnett, Kerry Washington, and the women who are the buzz of this week's gossip blogs, Samantha and Charlotte Ronson.
But no sign of Samantha's crazed ex, Lindsay Lohan, even without that buzzed-about restraining order! Bummer. Wouldn't that have been drama.
But more about that later. …
First, let’s talk “Twilight.”
Kellan told the Dish Rag that he was going snowboarding this weekend.
“I love snowboarding but I can’t tell that to the studio because I’m not supposed to be snowboarding just before shooting.”
Well, no one from Summit's gonna read The Dish Rag, so you can relax.
After the snowboarding, which we're not going to ever mention again, he has two weeks of shooting on the set of “New Moon.” But it’s pretty low-stress.
“This one is not about the vampires at all. It's more about the werewolves. Taylor's going to be great. He’s really stepped up to the role and he deserves it.”
He revealed that Taylor has bulked up about as much as he can. Why?
Seems his height precludes him adding any more girth or it will look very strange and bulky onscreen.
Then Kellan heads back to the set in August for “Eclipse,” the third film.
He says that there was a huge sense of relief experienced by all the stars, but especially by Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
“They had so much weight on their shoulders before the first one came out.... So much anticipation.... Now they are more relaxed – they have an idea of what to expect and they know that lots of people like it – so it's all good.”
On the success of "Twilight," Lutz admitted, “Its kind of like a dream – to work on a movie like this that has been so well-received – it's just awesome. It's so great to have so many fans that love it.”
Robert Pattinson Talks Gossip

These days, you can't look at a gossip rag or website without finding some new -- often outrageous -- story about Robert Pattinson, the red-hot star of 'Twilight.'
When we talked to Pattinson in anticipation of his upcoming film 'Little Ashes' (in theaters May 8, 2009), we decided to get the sexy 22-year-old's take on a few recent headlines.
Find out if he really took a fan to dinner, his response to Ryan Reynolds' admiration ... and if the guy showers. -- By Angie Argabrite
1. I heard that you follow all the online gossip about yourself?
I read that and thought it was such bullshit. I was like, "God, I sound like such a loser!"
2. So it's not true?
Well, I do sometimes. I used to a lot more before and then ... I only look at the negative stuff. I just want to know whoever's saying negative stuff, and I just want to remember their names. I write it all down in my black book. [Laughs]
3. Is it true that you took a fan out for dinner?
That is true, yeah.
4. Is it true that, I don't know if you saw this, but a source on the set of 'New Moon' said that you don't smell good, that you don't shower?
I haven't even been on the set yet!
5. You know the same thing went around about Zac Efron a while ago; that he doesn't shower.
Really? He looks like he smells really good [laughs]. I also do shower.
6. I also read that you got hit on the head with a sign while you were filming?
You know, that is the most ... I actually got told about that this morning. It's like, "What?" It's the most boring story.
7. I just watched a Ryan Reynolds video interview and he called you "dreamy" and said he'd love to work with you.
[Embarrassed laugh] Really?
8. Is there anyone you'd love to work with?
Ryan Reynolds! [Laugh] ... I've always wanted to work with Benicio Del Toro, I think he's amazing. And there are tons and tons of people ...
(This is just a taste of our interview with the charmingly shy Pattinson. Come back closer to the release date of 'Little Ashes' for more surprises in our full interview, in which he reveals how he prepared for his nude scenes in the Salvador Dali biopic, where he sees himself in the future ... and how the energy is different on 'New Moon.')
Robert Pattinson readies fans for "Twilight" sequel

Reuters By Alex Dobuzinskis
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - For "Twilight" movie fans who are anxiously awaiting the sequel but haven't read the second book in the vampire series, "New Moon," the film's star Robert Pattinson offers this advice -- be ready for something different and perhaps a little strange.
Pattinson became an overnight sensation playing a lovestruck vampire in the smash hit that sucked $373.4 million from global box offices, and he is in Vancouver, Canada, this week starting production on the film version of "New Moon."
Before that sequel lands in theaters in November, Pattinson plays eccentric painter Salvador Dali in "Little Ashes," which opens in art houses May 8 and tells of a homosexual love affair between Dali and the poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
But for now his turn as immortal vampire Edward Cullen, who falls in love with high school girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) in "Twilight," has catapulted him to fame and his fans are dying for details on "New Moon."
Pattinson, for one, is cautious.
"The book of 'New Moon,' the majority of it is incredibly depressing," Pattinson told Reuters. "Obviously 'Twilight' was about finding first love and the difficulties of that, but 'New Moon' is really about loss and reconciliation, but the reconciliation isn't completely full."
"It's a strange story to have for a market that, I guess, wants to see a love story," he said.
Nevertheless, the London-born Pattinson said everyone involved is working to make "New Moon" as big a success as "Twilight."
Pattinson's rising star has turned the former model into a favorite target of the paparazzi. Only last year, he was a relatively unknown actor whose big film credits were supporting roles in a pair of "Harry Potter" movies.
"It's turned into this crazy situation. I guess it has become a sort of phenomenon now which I really, really didn't expect," Pattinson said.
So, he often escapes to one of his first loves, music. He plays guitar and piano, and his song "Never Think" made it onto the "Twilight" soundtrack.
For now, he said there are no plans to put his music on "New Moon," but he has become "obsessed" with composing songs.
He said his acting hero is Oscar winner Jack Nicholson, and his ideal job would be something out of the spotlight.
"I like any job where you can just shut yourself away from everybody," he said.
"New Moon," from director Chris Weitz, is scheduled to open in theatres on November 20.
Robert Pattinson eyeing 'Memoirs'

Summit courting 'Twilight' star for new project
Robert Pattinson, who proved his romantic appeal in Summit's "Twilight," may play another star-crossed lover in a new project called "Memoirs" that Summit is currently assembling.
Pattinson, who is reprising his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" sequel "The New Moon," is in early talks to star in the new project, which Allen Coulter is considering directing.
"Memoirs," based on an orignal screenplay by Will Fetters that will be rewritten by Jenny Lumet, who penned "Rachel Getting Married," tells of two lovers whose newfound relationship is threatened as they struggle to deal with family tragedies.
Coulter -- who directed "Hollywoodland," which dealt with the death of George Reeves, and has been nominated for six Emmys for his work on HBO's "The Sopranos" and FX's "Damages" -- is in negotiations on the project.
Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson would produce via their Underground Films banner, and Summit president of production Erik Feig and vp production Meredith Milton, who brought the project to Summit, will oversee for the studio.

Love Bella's 'Twilight' style? So does Robert Pattinson!

There's no expensive D&G, no blinged Juicy Couture, no double-C Chanel or slinky Versace in the seductively subdued world of "Twilight."
"Twilight" costume designer Wendy Chuck explains to EW why she didn't put Bella (Kristen Stewart) in a single big designer creation in "Twilight."
And she probably won't do any recognizable designer duds in "New Moon" either.
Seems she made a conscious choice to shun A-list designers and stick to real-life affordable separates.
''My look is always character-based and not fashion-based," she tells EW. It's really easy to get over-stylish, and I felt that Bella in particular had to be anchored in the real world.''
That's why you see Bella in the parking scene car wreck scene in a brown Rubbish hoodie from Nordstrom and woolen mittens from Ruth Cross. And why Bella looks sweet in a cream thermal by Curious Gypsy with thumb holes in the sleeves in the hospital scene.
And why she sports a faded blue cargo jacket from Jack BB Dakota (purchased at the last minute from a Nordstrom Rack store) when she and Edward do tree climbing. And why she dons a $20 Max and Cleo silk frock from the discount shop Ross to briefly hit the high school prom.
According to EW, that newly dubbed "Twilight" cargo jacket will be reissued in July for $84. We want one now!
'Twilight' DVD: Best of Robert Pattinson's audio commentary

I had read that Robert Pattinson was a cut-up on the Twilight DVD commentary track with director Catherine Hardwicke and costar Kristen Stewart, but I needed to hear it (and 122 minutes of his British accent) for myself. The man's obsession with Edward's sculpted eyebrows really is quite entertaining. The highlights:
10:20 "See, that look is a very meaningful look," he says, laughing, as Edward tries to read Bella's mind the first time he see her in the cafeteria. Self-deprecating humor, check.
11:00 "I didn't actually know they were rolling when we were doing this scene," he says, chuckling (presumably) at how bad his acting is when Edward first gets a whiff of Bella in biology. "...I was just kinda cold."
15:40 "That was really impressive...," he says when Stewart's Bella slips and falls on some ice. "What was impressive?" Stewart asks. "That falling over thing," he says. You can hear her rolling her eyes. "That's tough.... Do you just fall on your ass?" "Yeah, I just basically fell down." (This was funny, because he was actually trying to be serious, I think. It won't happen again.)
Kristen Stewart: The Truth about Twilight, Rob Pattinson and the Fans

FanBolt
Good news, fanggirls: Kristen Stewart says there will be a fourth Twilight movie. She can't imagine why there wouldn't be a big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, the last novel in her young vampire series.
As we all know by now, Twilight was one of last year’s biggest hits, New Moon starts shooting any minute now, and the studio most recently announced they've officially started work on developing Eclipse.
"We all really hope there is going to be a number four," Stewart, 18, told me yesterday afternoon when we sat down to chat in a suite at L.A.'s Sofitel hotel. "I'm pretty confident that the fans aren’t going to all of a sudden lose interest. The only case that a fourth one wouldn’t be made is if all of a sudden people stopped caring, and I really don't think that's going to happen."
And that's not about to happen for Stewart, either. In fact, she'd like to set the record straight about critics who have come to attack her as some sort of Hollywood ingrate who doesn't think very highly of Twilight or its more dedicated—some would say obsessed—fan base.
'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson Talks About Nude Scenes In 'Little Ashes'

In GQ cover story, he also calls 'Twilight' fan fiction 'surprisingly hard-core.'
For all the Twilighters out there writing fan fiction featuring Robert Pattinson, you should know that the man also known as Edward Cullen is reading it.
"It's surprisingly hard-core. And very well-written," he said in a GQ cover story.
Things are about to get a lot more hard-core for Pattinson. RPattz is ready to share his first onscreen love scene with the world, but for girls who are hoping it's between Bella and Edward, they better think again.
"In a lot of ways, I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing," he said about his new movie "Little Ashes," in which he plays surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. "I had to do all this naked stuff.
"I thought I'd never get another acting job again," Pattinson continued. "So I was like, 'Yeah — why not try to do something weird?' There's all these gay-sex scenes. And, you know, I haven't even done a sex scene with a girl in my whole career."
Pattinson said it wasn't so much having to play gay that was hard, but having an audience there for it. "Here I am, with Javier [Beltrán], who plays [Federico Garcí] Lorca, doing an extremely hard-core sex scene, where I have a nervous breakdown afterward," he said. "And because we're both straight, what we were doing seemed kind of ridiculous. ... And it wasn't even a closed set. There were all these Spanish electricians giggling to themselves."
Talking about movies is one thing for Pattinson, but for the guy who nearly had a panic attack at the "Twilight" premiere, talking about himself in interviews isn't easy.
"The only way to establish any kind of mystique is to completely shut up and never talk to anyone," he said. "And I'm contractually obligated not to shut up."

Believe it or not from the amount of Twilight items I've been asked to write for PopWatch (because I enjoyed the books and saw the movie), I've never felt the need to know more about Robert Pattinson. But then I was sent the link to his revealing GQ cover story, and the profile of a young star incapable of lying -- and prone to panic attacks -- clearly intrigued me....
• Being smart, GQ put a link that reads "CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS OF ROBERT PATTINSON" at the top of the story. Obviously, I clicked. First shot is the cover photo of Rob (already, I know him!) in a $2,500 wool suit. Nice, but a little underwhelming compared to that naked Jennifer Aniston cover. Next, a shot of him smoking a cigarette. Brave or bound to get him letters from angry moms? The third pic must be viewed, for it is the finest black-and-white art shot of his hair ever taken. The fourth is the only one I'd consider supersmokin'. This could be because he's lying down, in a black T-shirt and torn jeans, clasping his hands over his manbits. He's like one of the Outsiders...bathed.
Pattinson: New role's 'naked stuff' uncomfortable
13 Mar 2009 | Comments (0)
Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) — Robert Pattinson says he wasn't prepared to film his first sex scenes for the upcoming period drama "Little Ashes."
The "Twilight" actor portrays Spanish artist Salvador Dali as a young man. He tells GQ magazine's April issue that he was uncomfortable as crew members watched and giggled during his graphic interlude with a male co-star.
"In a lot of ways, I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing," he said. "I had to do all this naked stuff."
The British heartthrob says he wanted to try "something weird," but the part was more difficult than he'd anticipated.
Pattinson has found a way to take the edge off before: Pattinson says he took a quarter of a Valium pill before his "Twilight" audition.
Two years ago, Robert Pattinson was a forgotten extra in a ‘Harry Potter’ movie. Then he got cast as a blue-balled vampire in ‘Twilight,’ the year’s kazillion-dollar movie franchise, and every woman in America over 14 wants him. Too bad he’s not sure he wants them
It’s December; Twilight, in which Pattinson, 22, plays an adorably tortured perma-teenage vampire too principled to drink human blood, has been in theaters for about a month. Long enough for it to gross more than $150 million, long enough for the studio to pull the trigger on the first of three potential sequels by replacing director Catherine Hardwicke with one of the guys responsible for the American Pie franchise, not long enough for Pattinson to grasp what any of these developments mean for him, or the importance of dissembling in the presence of reporters.
He slides into his chair, dressed all in black, with a weeks-old beard, hair crammed under a wool cap, looking like Justin Timberlake researching an off-Broadway turn as Terry Malloy. His clothes smell like he has recently purchased them off the back of someone less fortunate than he. He’s just come from a big-time meeting with a director and can’t wait to tell us how weird it was. Some guy offering him a part, maybe, in a movie so double top secret he couldn’t tell Pattinson what it was about. “He wouldn’t say anything,” Pattinson says, “and he also wouldn’t leave,” so Pattinson sat there and talked about himself for three hours and drank enough coffee to make a rhino’s heart explode.
“God, I don’t remember the last time I ate,” Pattinson says.
In a vampire movie, he’d have said this with a suggestive eyebrow-wiggle, and then they’d cut to our pallid corpse tumbling out of a Dumpster. Stupid journalist. Instead, Pattinson goes on, filling dead air. He explains that the place he’s staying at in L.A. has a microwave, and that he’s never had a microwave before, and that he spends a lot of time looking for new things you can microwave. Those frozen cheeseburgers, from the store. A carrot. Did we mention that he’s had about nineteen cups of coffee? He asks the waiter about the soup. It’s chicken vegetable. He orders a Coke.
Robert Pattinson On Ex-Girlfriends, Camilla Belle Rumors & Proposing To Kristen Stewart
12 Mar 2009 | Comments (0)
Access Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson has had to contend with an onslaught of rumors since being launched into Hollywood’s spotlight, including reports that he’s dating a Brazilian model, stole a Jonas Brother’s girlfriend and a marriage proposal to his co-star Kristen Stewart.
“There’s literally not a single [true] story that could be written about me,” he told GQ in its April issue. “I never do anything.”
And while he has become the object of many women’s affections, according to the actor, reports that he’s dating a model are not true.
“There’s this thing about my supposed girlfriend,” he continued. “There’s this one girl who’s consistently mentioned. It’s like, ‘He’s dating this Brazilian model’… I’ve never met her.”
The rumors he’s endured do not stop with just models. The young star also fended off the report he is dating actress Camilla Belle.
“That’s the funniest one,” Pattinson said. “No. I mean, yeah, yeah, I’m friends with - Camilla.”
And according to the actor, there is no truth to reports that he broke up Camilla and Joe Jonas.
“From the Jonas brother, yeah,” Pattinson said with a laugh, referring to the rumor. “I’m completely out of control. It’s funny, though, because I met her at her place the other day, and there’s a security gate, and even the security woman—I guess she knows that Camilla lives there, and she was like, ‘Oooh!’ …they always say ‘A source said,’ and I don’t know a single person that could be a source.”
As for his reported marriage proposal to “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart, Robert said there never was one.
“I said that in some interview, as a joke, Oh, I proposed to her multiple times.’ And then it gets printed: ‘On the set, he proposed multiple times,’” he explained.
And what does the future hold for Robert after he’s done with the “Twilight,” Robert said he’s not sure – but he never wants to be thought of as “a joke idea.”
“I’m not massively concerned about doing lots of acting jobs,” he said. “If it all just went, right now, I’d be like, ‘All right. I don’t really care.’ That’s probably a stupid thing to say. But I don’t, really. I think it’d be much worse to do a load of stuff that’s really bad. Because then you can’t go into another career. If you’ve made an idiot out of yourself, you’re never going to be taken seriously, as a lawyer or something, if you’re, like, a joke actor. The only thing I want from anything is to not be embarrassed.”

Plus, Taylor Lautner tries to make nice with Team Edward: 'I love you guys!'
Robert Pattinson is known as a swoon-worthy Brit with a killer head of hair, but his "Twilight" co-star wants RPattz fans to see a new side of the actor.
"He's really talented, he's really smart, he's really musical, he's an intellectual, he reads," Nikki Reed told "Access Hollywood." "That's the side that I wish people would [ask about]. I don't know if anyone necessarily even knows him ... that side of him."
And although Pattinson has captured the hearts of teen girls everywhere, for the "Twilight" cast, he's no different than anyone else. "We got to know him in a different environment," Reed added. "I don't feel any differently about Rob than I do about the rest of the cast."
But one male co-star who did manage to win the affections of the ladies on set is Taylor Lautner. "Taylor's my fave!" Reed gushed, while co-star and fellow Team Jacob member Rachelle Lefevre added: "I already adopted him, back off!"
The ladies admire the fact that Lautner worked so hard to win back his role of Jacob Black for the sequel. "His commitment is unbelievable," Lefevre said. "I would've ran away. ... I would've been terrified. He had to screen-test again."
And Lautner recently admitted that he is a bit nervous about heading back on set to reprise the role he fought so hard to get. "I'm getting a little nervous," Lautner told E! News. "But I'm so thankful for the fans and even those Robert Pattinson/ Edward fans. I know we wouldn't ... be here filming 'New Moon' and [then] filming 'Eclipse' if it wasn't for them."
He just hopes that Team Edward members "don't hate on me too much. I love you guys!"

The Best 'Twilight' Cast Performances You Haven't Seen
03 Mar 2009 | Comments (0)
MTV By Larry Carroll
Robert Pattinson in 'How to Be,' Kristen Stewart in 'Cake Eaters' and more make our top five.
You've memorized the books, you'll be in line for the midnight DVD-release party, and you have "Kellan 4-Ever" tattooed across one (or both) buttocks. But are you fully prepared to be a true Twilighter?
First, you need to bask in the versatile skills the franchise's stars will depend on as they film "New Moon" and "Eclipse," practically back-to-back, beginning this month. With that in mind, we've compiled our top-five "Twilight" cast performances you haven't seen:
5. Kristen Stewart in "The Cake Eaters" In this sweet, tiny little film, KStew steals the show as Georgia Kaminski, a terminally ill teen hoping to find love while grappling with the nerve-system-attacking disease Friedreich's ataxia. The potential pitfalls are obvious, as Stewart slurs her speech, limps around and depends on others to help her maneuver. But the talented actress sheds light on the affliction, giving a performance that is tender, sweet and — most disarmingly — sexy.
Where to See It: The movie opens in limited release March 13.
4. Edi Gathegi on "Life on Mars" Sadly, this trippy, time-traveling cop drama was recently canceled. Its short life, however, gave us a great cameo by the man Twilighters know as Laurent. Stepping in for a flashback of an older character, Gathegi's performance built to a big payoff — basically, he had to make the audience care for his character as much as the show's star did. In a brief amount of time, the endearing Gathegi brought the goods.
Where to See It: Pray that the episode, titled "Things to Do in New York When You're Dead," gets rerun — or that season one eventually gets a DVD release.
3. Robert Pattinson in "How to Be" In the months since RPattz's career explosion, this tiny independent film has become a phenomenon. Filmed in early 2007, the flick stars Rob as a young musician seeking wisdom from a self-help guru — and "Twilight" fans have been traveling hundreds of miles for its current cinema tour. "Cinequest we just did; it went really well," producer Justin Kelly said of a recent date at a San Jose film festival. "It's insane; people fly across three states to see it. It's fantastic."
Where to See It: The Independent Film Channel's Festival Direct service will make the film available April 29 on cable providers Bright House, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Insight and Time Warner. "We're supporting IFC's release with the cinema tour," Kelly explained.
2. Billy Burke on "The Closer" If you're like me, you see "Matlock," "Columbo" and "Monk" and wonder: What's the point of watching if the star always catches the criminal? After years of suffering in silence through my wife's "Closer" obsession, I was recently rewarded by a tour-de-force cameo from Burke. Bella Swan's father broke out as Philip Stroh, a smooth-talking lawyer who might be in cahoots with his murderer/rapist client. By the end of the episode, Burke had shown tremendous range and walked away with a devilish glee — a performance that has haunted Kyra Sedgwick's homicide chief ever since.
Where to See It: The episode, titled "Power of Attorney," can be found on TNT's Web site.
1. Anna Kendrick in "Rocket Science" Admittedly, it might be the most visible performance out of the five listed here. Still, Twilighters who haven't seen Kendrick's breakout performance in this 2007 indie flick need to put down their copy of Kristen Stewart's unauthorized biography and get to Blockbuster immediately. Cast as fast-talking debate queen Ginny Ryerson, Kendrick is nothing short of a revelation.

'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson Talks 'New Moon,' 'Eclipse' And 'Breaking Dawn'

MTV By Larry Carroll
'I'm gonna be Twilighted out,' actor says of upcoming sequels.
HOLLYWOOD — In the last 12 months, 22-year-old Robert Pattinson has filmed a hit movie, walked numerous red carpets and plastered his face on the cover of seemingly every magazine except Guns & Ammo. It wasn't until Sunday night, however, that he officially felt like a movie star.
"It's insane," the "Twilight" star grinned, standing on the red carpet while Brangelina went past him. "This is the weirdest. When [the Academy] first told us about [my invitation to present an award], I was like, 'No, no, no. You're joking!' [I thought] I was going to have to do something really stupid, like get gunged [slimed]!"
Fear not, RPattz — the Oscars were not planning to have you slimed, gunged or Punk'd in any way. Instead, he appeared on stage alongside "Mamma Mia!" star Amanda Seyfried to present a montage of great love scenes from the year in film. And while on the carpet, Pattinson said he couldn't wait to get on to the "New Moon" set and start making some new love scenes of his own.
"I think there's going to be some continuity," Pattinson said of the sequel, which will begin filming with new director Chris Weitz next month. "But it's weird, because they are shooting it in a different city [than the first film]. I've talked to [Weitz] a bit, but we've only talked about my character; I haven't really talked about the whole look of it. But Chris is great with visual stuff, so it should be pretty impressive."
But don't think Rob is all sugar and spice and everything nice — asked which "New Moon" scene he's most eager to shoot, Pattinson said he can't wait to dump Kristen Stewart's Bella. "The scene where we temporarily break up," he revealed. "On one hand, it's completely impossible. And on the other, it sets a very different tone to the series. I think it will be good."
It's a good thing that RPattz is so eager to slip back into the peacoat and colored contacts of love-struck vampire Edward Cullen. Because, unbeknownst to us, we were about to break some big news to him that would basically force the actor to clear his schedule from now until late 2010.
"I didn't even know that!" Rob marveled when we told him that "Eclipse" had recently snagged itself a release date a mere seven months after that of "New Moon."
"Yep, and 'Breaking Dawn' is going to be at some point as well," he added, knowing that he'll be playing Edward well into his mid-20s. "Yeah, I'm gonna be Twilighted out by the end of the year."
A Modest Robert Pattinson Classes Up The Oscars

MTV by Larry Carroll
Some people watch the Oscars looking for Brad and Angelina, Jack Nicholson in the front row, or the annual musical tributes to the past year in film. Sunday’s ceremony, however, brought a new star to the game: Robert Pattinson.
It was a blast watching the “Twilight” heartthrob navigate the red carpet this year for one main reason: He’s still a normal guy. Yes, an abnormally good-looking normal guy, but Robert is every bit as self-deprecating, easily embarrassed, and endearingly sincere as any of us would be during our first time at an Oscar ceremony – and let’s hope no matter how big he gets, he stays that way.
Of course, for all the Twilighters out there, every shot of Mickey Rourke in the audience meant one thing: Rob could be glimpsed over the Oscar nominee’s right shoulder. Like an angel whispering in Mickey’s ear, RPattz sat there in his classy, old-school tux, looking as much like a star from yesterday as he did a star from tomorrow.
And then there was the hair.
“Maybe,” he told us on the red carpet when we asked if he was letting his locks grow long again. “I mean if it grows any more; if it keeps going.”
If there’s one thing Twilighters know, it’s that Rob’s hair is as endless, raw and carefree as his acting style. It appears as though we’ll be seeing our old buddy Edward again real soon, when “New Moon” begins filming next month.
We just posted a new story over at MTV.com about Rob’s thoughts on the sequel, as well as the two films (at least) that will come after it. Something tells me we’ll be seeing plenty of RPattz at Oscar ceremonies in the years to come.
Robert Pattinson's Newest Fan: Natalie Portman?

The 'Star Wars' hottie and the 'Twilight' star were spotted together at Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
Robert Pattinson may have been a bit freaked out about the prospect of presenting at the Oscars, but rumor has it that the "Twilight" star found the perfect way to unwind later Sunday night: by flirting with Natalie Portman.
"[Portman] seemed really into him and went right up to say hello once she spotted him," a Pattinson pal told E! Online after they were spotted talking to each other at the famed Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The friend added that "whiskey and Natalie Portman" helped the young star deal with his nerves.
Although Pattinson and Portman, who could possibly be a closeted Twilighter, were seen chatting it up at the party, Pattinson reportedly went home all by his lonesome (much to the relief of Team Edward members the world over).
"It's insane," Pattinson said of his Oscar gig on the red carpet, where he also discussed work on the upcoming "Twilight" sequels "New Moon" and "Eclipse." "When they first told me about this, I was like, 'No, no, no, no, no, you're joking — or I'm going to have to do something really stupid like get gunged [slimed]!"
The man who is better known as Edward Cullen represented "Twilight" alongside "Mamma Mia!" star Amanda Seyfried, where the duo presented a montage of romantic movies. "I had to become a vampire to find the right woman," he joked onstage, demonstrating the difficulties of modern love.

'It's insane,' the British actor says amid the red-carpet hoopla.
Reports that "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson would appear at the 81st annual Academy Awards were confirmed as the actor took to the red carpet and then the Kodak Theatre stage on Sunday night to present a montage of romance scenes.
Pattinson introduced the clips alongside "Mamma Mia!" actress Amanda Seyfried, confirming his current breakout status and watching a brief cut to "Twilight," which was included in the retrospective alongside "The Wrestler," "Iron Man," "High School Musical" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
"It's insane," Pattinson told MTV News in an exclusive interview from the red carpet before the ceremony. "When they first told me about this, I was like, 'No, no, no, no, no, you're joking — or I'm going to have to do something really stupid like get gunged [slimed]!"
Pattinson appeared to be taking in all the excitement surrounding him at his first trip to the Oscars, ready to make the most of his newly found spotlight. "I don't know what to get out of it," he confessed.
Pattinson arrived in true Oscar fashion, sporting a sleek, standard black tuxedo and wearing his grown-out hair lightly tossed around with a subtle patch of scruff on his chin.
Once onstage, the actor spoke briefly with Seyfried about the subject of love in film. The pair recalled the prevalence of romance in popular film, dating back through 1927's "Wings," the first movie to win a Best Picture Oscar when the awards were presented in 1929.
"What it is, how to get it, how to keep it and what to do when it goes incredibly wrong," Pattinson listed among the perspectives on love that have been addressed over the years on screen. As recent participants in unique romance tales, he and Seyfried noted their own contributions. The London-born star touched on his specific plight as Edward Cullen in "Twilight."
"I had to become a vampire to find the right woman," he joked.

Robert Pattinson made his Oscars Debut at the prestigious ceremony Sunday.
The British actor - who shot to fame playing vampire Edward Cullen in the recent Twilight movie; a role he'll reprise alongside Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner in its sequel New Moon later this year - presented a montage of the year's romantic films along side Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried.
Before Pattinson, 22, arrived at the ceremony, he was seen grabbing something to eat at the Palihouse hotel in West Hollywood. He tried to go unrecognized by covering up with a red hoodie. "He was solo and reading a book," a source told E! News.
The hunky star was also seen having fun on Saturday at the Night Before benefit for the Motion Picture & Television Fund at the Beverly Hills Hotel. "Everyone was wishing him good luck at the Oscars," a fellow benefit-goer said.
And for those die hard Pattinson fans looking to get their fix of the star on the big screen before New Moon; he can soon be seen starring as Spanish painter Salvador Dali in the upcoming indie drama Little Ashes.

Robert Pattinson might enjoy living in America but he loves being British.
His sexy voice leaves millions of girls weak at the knees.
When Rob was asked by Teen First is he thought being British gave him something extra to play a vampire he said: "I don't know if being British helps! (Laughs)
"It's weird because there were a lot of British people up for this part. The author's choice was an English guy which was really strange.
"She wanted all English guys to play Americans."
Rob think he knows why Stephenie Meyer wanted a Britsh guy.
He added: "I think there is something about this myth in America of British people being classy."
Need a reason to watch the Oscars Sunday night?

If this latest report is to be believed, Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony will welcome a new and welcome face for many a young fan. Sure, you’ll get your Brad and Angelina fix this weekend (both are nominated of course) but who cares about the world’s most famous couple this side of Barack and Michelle when Robert Pattinson is involved.
Yes, HitFix claims they have confirmed the recent rumors that “Twilight” star Pattinson will indeed present an award at the Oscars. The report doesn’t indicate what award Pattinson will present nor whether his “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart will be by his side as he bestows a statuette to a lucky winner.
The decision to add Pattinson to the roster of presenters can’t be considered much of a surprise. It’s no secret that the Oscar telecast has been a ratings-challenged affair in recent years. And this year’s ceremony — without a blockbuster like “Titanic” (or even “The Dark Knight”) in competition for the major awards — could use all the help it can. Hugh Jackman will host the proceedings and that certainly establishes a different vibe than the usual stand-up host. But with the addition of Pattinson the Oscar producers are clearly hoping to draw in a younger crowd.
So will it work? Are you more likely to watch the Oscars now that it seems Pattinson is part of the mix?

Need a reason to watch the Oscars Sunday night?
At least TiVo the show so you can fast forward to the exciting (cue the ear-piercing screams!!!!) moment when "Twilight" hottie Robert Pattinson steps onstage to present an award.
It's been widely rumored that Pattinson will show up for Hollywood's most star-studded evening, and now HitFix.com is confirming the rumor.
No word on whether his "Twilight" costar Kristen Stewart will also appear. Or what award he will present. But who cares?
Wild speculation now is focused on who Pattinson's date will be.
We're betting he flies solo.
Pattinson shot to stardom after playing the young man of millions of teenage girls' dreams, vampire Edward Cullen in "Twilight," the first in a series of films based on Stephenie Meyer's popular "Twilight" book series.
He's expected to begin production in March on the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon," due in theaters Nov. 2.
Finally, an Oscar red carpet that will interest teenage girls!

Robert Pattinson knew during the filming of Little Ashes that he wanted to be a professional actor.
He told YOU magazine what happened: "Last year, when I played Salvador Dali. The whole crew was Spanish. I can't speak Spanish so I obsessed over the part.
"I came to a completely different realization about how deep you can go into a character and how you can research a character. It was the first time I've been satisfied from a job.
"I wanted to bring that to every job afterward."
Before Little Ashes Rob had been thinking of giving up acting and trying his hand at music instead.
He decided to keep with the acting and shortly afterwards landed the part of Edward Cullen in Twilight.
Rob hasn't totally given up on the music idea and two of his tracks appear on the Twilight soundtrack.

She might not be directing New Moon but Catherine Hardwicke must be happy that she got the chance to direct Robert Pattinson before he was an international star.
Before Twilight not many people had heard of Rpattz, but now he is the hottest actor on the planet.
Catherine Hardwicke told VHM during filming: "Actually, I do feel lucky directing Kristen and Rob, because their faces are so beautiful.
"They're expressive. Their skin is just porcelain, and sometimes I am literally watching the monitor and I'm going, "Oh, I'm so excited!" just about jumping up and down. But I don't want to say anything, because I want to keep them in the moment.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm getting gold here. And it is very exciting."
Kristen might not be as accident prone as Bella in real life but she still managed to pull it off.
Kristen added: "I haven't hurt myself on set; I've hurt myself off-set. It's surprisingly difficult to do it on cue. I'm not the most graceful of people, but it's like physical comedy — it's hard to do. Unless you're actually tripping, it just looks fake.
"But I'm doing my best. I'm no Buster Keaton, but I'm trying."

Star Magazine is claiming that Timberlake, and Efron, are upset that Pattinson who is a newcomer in their eyes, has been offered a leading role - according to a tabloid spy.
“Everyone in the industry is shocked that Rob is already getting such big roles,” says an insider. Zac and Justin have been working for a lot longer than he has. There is a bit of jealousy there. Zac’s people want him to have the lead. AndJustin’s people have asked that he get a lot of screen time.”

Twilight star Robert Pattinson can't always play a vampire heartthrob.
In his next movie, Little Ashes, set in 1922 and described by Variety as an "arty Bohemian romp," the London-born actor, 22, plays Spanish surrealist painter (1904-1989) Salvador Dalí as a young man – in love with the poet Federico GarcÍa Lorca, played by Javier Beltran.
The two meet at university, with Lorca attracted to what the movie's production notes call Dalí's "bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism." Hey, beats a bite in the neck.

"My friend Rob, for that whole Twilight nonsense, the studio was having them take all these classes," the 22-year-old actress tells Nylon magazine in its February issue. "It was the most frustrating thing in the world because they want you to speak like someone else, not yourself. It's so silly. And I would be frustrated, too."

Robert Pattinson is struggling to find a girlfriend.
The hunky British actor - who shot to fame playing Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Twilight, based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer - says no one wants to date him.
He reveals, "No one seems to get into a relationship with me.
"I'm a loner."
However, Ashley Greene - who stars alongside Pattinson in the vampire franchise - insists the 22-year-old is a nice guy. "Once you get to know him, he's really outgoing and fun," she tells Life & Style magazine. "He's a sweet guy, but he's different."
Pattinson recently revealed his belief that girls prefer bad boys over nice guys.
"I found that women prefer men with small flaws - bad boys," he said. "They don't always open the door for you, but they promise adventure. A guy like James Dean would always win out against a gentleman... He's a cool guy."
Robert will once again star alongside Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner for Twilight sequel New Moon, which has a tentative release date of November 20, 2009.

It might have been five years since Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe filmed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire together but they are still good friends.
When Robert was asked by Tele 5 if they are still in contact the Twilight actor replied: "Not really. He is constantly working and I haven't been to England for almost a year.
"But we're friends and he's a really cool guy."
Both Edward Cullen and Cedric Diggory are seen as tragic characters and the interviewer asked Robert why he thinks he was cast.
Robert replied: "Maybe people want to see me suffer (laughs).
"No, I have no idea why, but so far every character I have ever played had a tragic flaw in some way. I like that kind of like stuff.
"Catherine Hardwick and Kristen Stewart told me that at the (Twilight) audition I was the only one who didn't try to portray Edward as this strong confident hero.
"I tried to play him as a deseperate and broken character because that's how I saw him. Maybe that was the reason."

The Twilight actor is set to become an even bigger star than he was in 2008 when Little Ashes is released.

"So I think I'm gonna give up on my childhood dream of being a musician and just continue acting for now.
When Robert was asked how he deals with the hype surrounding him he replied: "It's somehow becoming a daily routine for me. It's still stressful and exhausting but at the same time really overwhelming.
"If you stand in the middle of these huge crowds of people, that are screaming your name and you are pulled in ever direction you get the feeling you are losing control about everything.
"It's a weird feeling but I am getting used to it."

Skullets to dreads, it was bad hair year

The Boston Globe by Christopher Muther
History, naturally, will remember 2008 as a year that was filled with events of epic scope — the election of our first African-American president, an economic collapse of Brobdingnagian proportions, automakers asking Washington for money the way a teenager grovels for an advance on his allowance.
But those of us who survived 2008 will remember it for something much more troubling: bad man hair.
Not since Phil Collins sported a ridiculous comb-forward and sang about a girl named Sussudio and Donald Trump's "The Art of the Deal" topped the best-seller list have we seen such a blatant display of bad hair on high-profile men.
Whether it was the wrong hair products or the wrong cut, there was no shortage of unwanted looks in 2008. Here's an eyeful of the year's top offenders.
Robert Pattinson — The 'Twilight" star became the object of unbridled teen lust, partially because his untamed rat's nest of a coiffure had the supernatural power to make young girls scream. Over studio objections, Pattinson finally chopped off his unwieldy mop and proved he's mortal after all.

Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart Interview: Twilight's Bella and Edward speak

IGN UK by Leigh Singer
Vampire flick Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as a pair of star-crossed teens, and IGN recently caught up with them to discuss the hit film's romantic chemistry, sexual tension - and dealing with crazy screaming fans.
IGN: Did you have any idea just how devoted the book's fans are?
Kristen Stewart: I knew how important the book was to a small group of people but I had no idea how widespread it was. I felt I was one of them, initially - then I realised I wasn't as crazy as most of them.
IGN: Were you prepared for the hysteria at the premieres?
Robert Pattinson: I don't think anything can prepare you for that. I don't know why I'm not getting used to it because it's happened absolutely everywhere we've been with Twilight, people screaming. 'Screaming' and 'Twilight' seem to belong in the same sentence. I'm completely overwhelmed with it.

Does the 'Twilight' hottie have a thing for older women?
Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson likes smart, strong women. Pattinson, 22, has become an international sex symbol, thanks to his delicate portrayal of the dreamy vampire Edward Cullen in the blockbuster Twilight.
Rob, who is single, has been traveling a lot recently to promote the popular vampire romance. And at every stop, he is mobbed by hordes of screaming teenage fans.
But while his fan base is largely comprised of young girls, it sounds like Rob prefers older women, telling Singapore's The Electric New Paper he used to have crushes on actresses Patricia Arquette and Elisabeth Shue at one point.
"I don't really have a 'type,' but I like smart people," he says. "You know, I really like Tina Fey. She is, like, the sexiest woman."
Hit film Twilight sequel will be harder, say stars

LONDON (Reuters) - The surprise success of "Twilight," the teen vampire movie that boasted a bigger opening North American weekend box office than the new James Bond, could make the sequel harder to sell, its leading actors said.
The movie, based on the bestselling novel by U.S. author Stephenie Meyer, made $69.6 million in movie theatres over its first weekend last month, ahead of Bond film "Quantum of Solace" which cost over five times as much to make.
The success helped convince independent studio Summit Entertainment to go ahead with sequel "New Moon" based on the second book in the series, and the two lead actors from Twilight are down to reprise their roles.

However the British actor admitted his friends don't always have the same opinion of him.
He revealed: "I'm sort of introverted. I mean I always think I'm introverted and then I find out from people that I've told them literally everything about my life within about two meetings so I can't be that introverted or I could just be really shallow."
Twilight Star Talks Soundtrack

The US phenomenon that is Twilight hits UK cinemas on 19th December, and we catch up with its director and star to talk about the soundtrack.
Based on Stephenie Meyer's teen vampire romance novels, Twilight tells the story of 17 year old Bella, who falls in love with Edward, who, as a vampire trying to live a normal life among humans, has to overcome his natural desire to kill her.
With a huge following in the US, Twilight fans include Hayley Williams from Paramore, who wrote two new tracks exclusively for the soundtrack, 'Decode' and 'I Caught Myself'. Director Catherine Hardwicke also got her friend Perry Farrell to come up with another song written specially for the movie, 'Going All The Way'.
The most notable inclusions in the film's score are 'Let Me Sign' and 'Never Think', written and performed by Edward himself, actor Robert Pattinson (Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire, Little Ashes). We speak to Pattinson and Hardwicke the day after the insanity of the Leicester Square premiere, where, despite the Jeff Buckley-like songs being suitably haunting, it becomes apparent that Pattinson is bashful of his musical side.
Robert Pattinson Teams With Rosario Dawson For ‘Parts Per Billion’

Sure, we’ve devoted ample time to “Little Ashes” and “How to Be,” two long-ago-wrapped indie films that should hit theaters in 2009, marking Robert Pattinson’s first appearances after his “Twilight” breakthrough. But now all eyes are on “Parts Per Billion,” the first film that the 22-year-old leading man will shoot as a certified star.
“It’s an ensemble story,” explained Rosario Dawson, who will also appear in the film alongside Olivia Thirlby and Dennis Hopper when it begins shooting next month. “[The script features several] different storylines that are going on.”
Directed by newcomer Brian Horiuchi, “Billion” tells the story of three couples (including Pattinson and Thirlby) dealing with the same reality-shaking event that threatens to tear them apart. Pattinson will shoot “Billion” before he reports for duty on the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon,” and the film is expected to be released in late 2009/early 2010.
“I don’t have a relationship to him in the film,” Dawson said of RPattz. “So we never meet. But we’re all within the same group of people, and the same city of people, that are responding to a life-threatening situation.”
The “Sin City” and “Clerks II” star (who will next be seen in the Will Smith drama “Seven Pounds”), also revealed to us that she’s been keeping a close eye on the “Twilight” phenomenon – and her future co-star – as both have spent the last few weeks running amok on the world of pop culture. “I haven’t met him yet, but I’m really looking forward to it,” she explained, adding another reason why she’s a newly-minted “Twilight” fan herself: “Catherine Hardwicke is someone I really adore, and have been casual friends with over the years.”
Twilight stars are the new scream idols

The Sydney Morning Herald by Gerard Wright
IT'S less than a cult but more than just a fan base. They gathered in wet, wintry Oregon almost 12 months ago to steal glimpses of the film that would put what they had imagined on the big screen. The film of the book is Twilight, now a four-part, international best-seller about the adventures of Isabella Swan and her pale but interesting friends, the Cullens, and specifically, Edward Cullen, the eternally teenaged dreamboat with a sculpted hairdo. The interest of those observers was less curious than proprietorial.
The story begins when the smart and reserved Bella, the new kid in a small, perpetually rainy and isolated town in Washington, is attracted immediately to Edward, a supernaturally handsome young man who is, in fact, a vampire.

Pattinson, Stewart want Hardwicke to direct sequel, too
Hot ''Twilight'' stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are hot under the collar -- unhappy their director, Catherine Hardwicke, won't be back to direct them in ''New Moon,'' the next film based on Stephenie Meyer's second novel in her megabest-selling vampire love story.
''They are both very upset,'' a good Hollywood source told me Monday. ''They are committed to doing at least the next 'Twilight' film -- and probably the one after that -- but they really wanted to do them with Catherine.''

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Thanks to "Twilight," Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson are bona fide stars. They cause riots at malls, they need security guards, and Pattinson even gets asked to suck necks.
And now, with the movie making more than $138 million (93 million pounds) in 17 days, they are entering a new phase of their careers. The two actors find themselves in an enviable position as the leads in a gold-plated franchise, and the offers began coming in almost a month before the movie opened.
Both already have their next movies in the can: Stewart stars with Jesse Eisenberg and Ryan Reynolds in "Adventureland," Gregg Mottola's follow-up to "Superbad," which is due March 27. Pattinson is playing surrealist artist Salvador Dali in Paul Morrison's "Little Ashes."
Hot Actor: Q&A With "Twilight" Star Robert Pattinson

"There's only so much adoration you can take"
How is the Twilight fandom is different from the Harry Potter movies? I think you've mentioned that the sound of the screams is even different. It's different because I think it's almost solely females of a certain age group, and they have a very specific tone. It's much more to do with the sort of sexuality aspect of it. So many girls made this guy [their ideal], so when they see you it's like all of their energy is projected onto you. It's a really strange experience. I've never been in an experience where people just want to touch you — it's like being in a boy band.
Is it weird to have girls that are so young have this incredibly sexualized thing around you? It's weird that you get 8-year-old girls coming up to you saying, "Can you just bite me? I want you to bite me." It is really strange how young the girls are, considering the book is based on the virtues of chastity, but I think it has the opposite effect on its readers though. [Laughs]

The movie, based on the bestselling novel by Stephenie Meyer, has become an instant hit with tween audiences. Thousands of screaming girls lined the black carpet Wednesday night for a chance to see Pattinson in the (undead) flesh.
Despite adoring fans, the single Pattinson, 22, tells PEOPLE he's not actively looking for a girlfriend. "I'm not like prowling around, no!" he laughs.
However his admirers' pickup lines have changed following Twilight's success. "Now it's very different," he said, continuing in a high-pitched falsetto, "It's, 'Oh I'm such a big fan!' "

And the star is encouraged after reading the book producers will base the movie on - because his character, teen vampire Edward Cullen, takes a back seat in the story.
He tells British morning show GMTV, "They've started making the second one. It's going to be shot in March next year (09). The second book is my favourite book - I'm hardly in it."

As Twilighters are all too happy to point out, author Stephenie Meyer has already penned three smash sequels to her intimate ode to human-immortal romance. The first, "New Moon," got the green light for production this past weekend, less than 24 hours after "Twilight" began breaking box-office records. The best-selling sequel tells a decidedly darker story that has Bella receiving a nasty paper cut, getting attacked by one of her potential in-laws and becoming an adrenaline junkie while an in-hiding Edward teeters on the edge of suicide.

“People like screaming at me,” the heartthrob added. “Actually, they like screaming at me in relationships as well. No one wants to commit.”
Five Favorite Films with Twilight's Robert Pattinson

Our (mostly) artful conversation with the 22-year-old British actor.
Thanks to a teen phenomenon called Twilight, Robert Pattinson has gone from being a little-known Brit actor (best known as the handsome, ill-fated Cedric Diggory in two Harry Potter films) to having his face plastered across every major magazine, television show, and website known to man. Or at least, every one of them known to teenage girls. This Friday, thousands of Pattinson's admiring fans will have the pleasure of finally watching the teen vampire romance that has launched their favorite new teen idol into the stratosphere, as he stars opposite Kristen Stewart as Edward Cullen, the dreamiest undead boyfriend of the year in Catherine Hardwicke's (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown) adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel.
But there's more than Tiger Beat fodder to the 22-year-old actor; after the Twilight frenzy peaks this week (with fans and Summit Entertainment suits crossing their fingers for a breakout box office to justify a multi-sequel franchise) Pattinson will appear next March as a young Salvador Dali in Little Ashes (click for images)-- a period piece that might test the ardor of Pattinson's Twilight fan base -- and the indie outsider pic How to Be, which will likely pick up distribution in the wake of Twilight. Pattinson's artful leanings came out in a conversation with Rotten Tomatoes about his favorite films of all time, which span such cinematic luminaries as Jack Nicholson, Jean-Luc Godard, and...Chris Kattan?

Did ‘Twilight’ Star Robert Pattinson Know What He Was Signing Up For?

Sometimes the stars of major book-to-movie franchises are humble, gracious, and totally comfortable around their legions of fans, no matter how obsessive — like Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe, a beacon of British politeness in a world of celebrities run amok. And other times they're like Robert Pattinson, Twilight's hilariously reluctant vampire heartthrob. To publicize Friday's release of the first film in Stephenie Meyer's teen-romance saga, Pattinson has been traveling the country signing autographs, shaking hands, and posing for pictures, and, as he's made clear to all reporters covering his promotional appearances, he is completely miserable.
A native of London, Pattinson probably just wanted to enjoy American nightlife, make out with famous actresses, and score some easy publicity for his fledgling emo band, sort of like that guy who plays Chuck Bass. And when he signed up to play Twilight hero Edward Cullen, Meyer's books weren't yet the media-acknowledged super-phenomenon that they are now. Plus, he'd already been in two Harry Potter movies, so how bad could this be, really?

Up-and-coming star Rob Pattinson is certainly no slouch in the looks department, but Twilight fans weren't impressed when he was cast as the indescribably beautiful Edward Cullen. "He looks like a bum," said one fan, Pattinson recalled at a recent Twilight press conference.
In the movie images and trailers released thus far, he's been cleaned up a bit and covered with pale makeup and suitable threads. Twilight fans have been won over somewhat. The "boos" have turned to squeals of excitement at Pattinson's recent appearances. One Hot Topic signing session even turned into full-on chaos, as we reported last week. However, fans are holding out on full, unabashed approval until they've seen the movie.
Watching the young actor portray the powerful, attractive Edward courting Bella on screen, it's easy to forget all the hoopla that once existed around the news of his casting. His onscreen American accent is so convincing that meeting the Englishman in person, his true voice came as a shock.

It's not exactly kissing and telling, but Peter Facinelli likes to brag about what it was like to neck with Robert Pattinson in Twilight.
"It was great," Facinelli (above with Elizabeth Reaser as Esme) says with a laugh. "I can actually say I'm one of the few guys who have necked with Rob Pattinson. A lot of people are envious of me."
Before you get your Brokeback Mountain undies in a twist, know that it's no hanky-panky between the two in the movie adaptation of the best-selling young-adult vampire novel. Facinelli plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen, a centuries-old vampire who is seen in the flick taking a bite out of Edward Cullen (Pattinson) to turn him into a fellow bloodsucker.
What really sucked for Facinelli, however, was having to dye his hair blond for the Catherine Hardwicke-directed movie...
"I was walking down the street one time and I looked at a guy," Facinelli remembers. "He looked at me and I smiled to say hello, and he said, 'What ya lookin' at?' I was like, 'Nothing.' And he literally turned around and started following me, like he wanted to kick my ass just because I had blond hair."
He better get used to those golden locks. It's not official yet, but it's fairly certain there will be at least a couple of Twilight sequels.
Finally, Facinelli says, his 11-year-old daughter with Beverly Hills 90210 star and Dancing With the Stars contestant Jennie Garth can see something he's actually been in. As of now, they've limited her to teen fave What I Like About You and another film in which he played a blind mountain climber.
"Most of the stuff I've done in the past is for adults with a lot of gun shooting and cops," Facinelli says. "For a long time it was 'I know Mommy's an actress, but what do you do, Daddy?'"
Buzz Interview: Robert Pattinson Talks Twilight (Part One)

Hey, Twilight fans! It's hard to believe the week of Twilight's big movie release has arrived. After spending some time with the young actor who's about to rocket to stardom playing the too-handsome-for-this-earth vampire, Edward, I'm curious to see this story come to life on screen.
After causing utter mayhem at a mall here in San Francisco last week, Robert Pattinson retreated to a calmer room where I asked him all my burning questions about the the mania surrounding this movie, how he approached the role, why people seem to be going ga-ga for vampires, and more. Incidentally, I have to note that in my most objective, journalistic opinion, the man is awfully dreamy. Ahem! On with the interview:
Before you signed up to do this movie, did you understand the hysteria that went along with the books?
No, I went into it having absolutely no idea what it was, and then some people turned up to the set occasionally. But I mean, I kind of expected that. I knew it was a popular book, so I thought, you know, it would be 20 fans who might come occasionally. And then when we finished shooting I went back to LA, and the first day I was there, someone came up to me and was like, [breathless girly voice] "You’re Edward!" and it was, "Oh, OK," just something I didn't expect. And then I did this thing called Comic-Con in San Diego and there were just seven or nine thousand people, just ridiculous . . . and they just screamed, like, 45 minutes — or the entire time, just screamed and screamed. Up until that point I wasn't really expecting anything.

This year's 'It Dude' Robert Pattinson finally confesses that he's actually a lot like his "Twilight" character, Edward Cullen.
But in a bad way.
Pattinson tells the Dish Rag: "I guess you never know what you have in your character before you do a job and what kind of comes out. I mean, I guess there are elements, a lot of self doubt. Probably all the negative elements. I don’t really have the positive elements, I am not very gentlemanly or anything, I am not very old-fashioned. I don’t have, yeah. I have the bad points."

BLAST: Where you prepared for the fact that there were going to be mobs at your last two events and they’d have to get shut down?
RP: No, not at all. It’s not even the last two anymore, it’s been all of them.
BLAST: Since Comic-con. I was at Comic-con, and I remember when you came out there were just cheers.
RP: It hasn’t died down at all. It happened in [Italy], it happened in Mexico. It’s completely ridiculous.

The Twilight star, on freaky fans, composing his own song, and the mysterious appeal of…his hair.
If he isn't already, Robert Pattinson will soon be a household name. The young British actor stars as the beautiful yet conflicted 107-year-old vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, with Kristen Stewart as the 17-year-old mortal (Bella Swan) with whom he unexpectedly embarks on a dangerous, passionate love affair. For anyone living under a rock, the film version of Twilight is based on the first of Stephenie Meyer’s immensely popular vampire novels, which have sold an estimated 17 million copies worldwide since 2005.

A QUICK BITE Robert Pattinson, right, a star of the film “Twilight,” with Catherine Hardwicke, the film’s director, and Jamie Marshall, a producer.
WHAT does a newly minted British movie star do when he hits New York?
He heads straight to Brooklyn to visit Bedford-Stuyvesant, apparently.
“I visited the Marcy projects this afternoon,” said Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen, the handsome vegetarian vampire in the film “Twilight,” which opens Nov. 21. “It was great. Nobody noticed me at all.”

Move over, Harry Potter. Twilight is Stephenie Meyer's publishing sensation with a forbidden vampire romance.
Could a vampire movie -- with two relative unknowns starring as a hunky bloodsucker and a gawky teenager -- become the biggest blockbuster of the season?
We'll find out on Nov. 21, when "Twilight," the latest mega-selling novel-to-film franchise, opens in theaters.
Anticipation among the books' legions of young fans already has turned the series' author, Stephenie Meyer, into publishing's newest literary superstar.
What, you ask, is the appeal of her dark vampire tales? "We love to be scared," says Meyer, whose books have sold more than 17 million copies worldwide. "But most of the monsters that you see are disgusting. They are usually oozing something. Vampires are the only ones who are dangerous and scary, and, at the same time, they're hot."

BEVERLY HILLS, California — With the best-selling novels, the multimillion-dollar advertising campaign, the near-riots at public appearances and so much else, it's hard to imagine that all this "Twilight" madness began as a simple dream.
Now, rabid fans are one week away from having their own dreams come true, as the "Twilight" movie hits theaters November 21. It seems only appropriate, then, that MTV News would mark another of our 10 Days of "Twilight" by checking in with the stay-at-home mom who awoke from that dream five years ago and wisely decided to write it down.

A tidal wave of hysteria swept through the King of Prussia Plaza last night as throngs of teenage girls - and some of their mothers - jockeyed for position in hopes of seeing a movie heartthrob. They had traveled from as far as Florida to cross paths with Robert Pattinson, the British hunk with a lead role in Twilight, the soon-to-be-released vampire movie. It's based on the popular four-book series by Stephenie Meyer chronicling the relationship between 17-year-old high school student Bella Swan and her bloodsucking boyfriend. That would be the charming Edward Cullen, portrayed in the film by Pattinson.
Meyer's books have sold 17 million copies to preteen and teenage girls, but the series' appeal crosses age lines. There are an estimated 8,000 members of Twilight Moms, whose locations range from the United States to Asia. Midnight parties, giveaways and trivia contests heralded the release of the series' fourth volume, Breaking Dawn, in August.
Punctuated by squealing last night, the raucous line of 500 diehard fans snaked around the goth store Hot Topic. Many had camped out since the night before for a chance to pay $30 for a T-shirt and wristband guaranteeing them a spot in line outside the store.
Fans shriek as actor Robert Pattinson talks Edward Cullen, young love and Doctor Who
"Bite me."
It's a request British actor Robert Pattinson gets almost daily as star of the new vampire film "Twilight" (opening Nov. 21).
"It's crazy," said Pattinson, 22, waiting inside Orland Square's Hot Topic store. He has to laugh, pretend he hasn't heard it before.
"Even if you say, 'No,' they just wait," he says. "They just stand there."
Wednesday night, more than 500 fans waited outside—some since the night before—to ask him the same question or something in that vein. One fan, Orland Park's Abby Johnson, wore a self-made T-shirt that read: "Edward Cullen Make Me Immortal" (Edward is Pattinson's fanged alter ego.)
As the clock reached 6 p.m., the time he'd start signing autographs, the crowd started screaming, counting down, "Three … two … one …" Chaos.
"Oh my God," said Pattinson, laughing nervously at the uproar. "Are they going to blow [the place] up?"
Mostly, they just filed in peacefully, gushing and smiling—though for the public Q&A session later, the crowd seemed to have swelled to a frenzied mass.
In what follows, Pattinson talks about his new movie, immortality and Doctor Who.

'I've also been trying to improve my spelling,' actor says of what he's been working on since 'Twilight.'
NEW YORK — Here at MTV News, we employ many highly trained journalists who have made it their life's mission to perfect the skill of the interview. But we're never too highfalutin' to remember that, sometimes, the best answers don't come from research, skill and experience, but rather spontaneity, eagerness and the good old-fashioned desire of a fan to simply geek out.
With that in mind, we recently recruited 19-year-old "Twilight" superfan Laura Culpepper to once again reunite with heartthrob Robert Pattinson as he gets ready to finally unveil his film to a loyal army of Twilighters all over the world just like Laura. Things are getting weird for Robert Pattinson.
But considering he's starring as high school vampire Edward Cullen in the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling young adult novel, Twilight, that's probably to be expected.
Still, just last week the 22-year-old British actor was at an Apple store in New York City when a seven-year-old girl asked to take a photo with him. No big deal, right?
“But then she went really quiet and she was like, 'Can you bite me?'” Pattinson told me with a somewhat nervous laugh yesterday in a Beverly Wilshire Hotel room, where he’d been holed up doing press all weekend. “It wasn’t a joke...I looked at her and thought, 'Do you know what you’re saying?' There are these kinds of sexual thoughts that come out of people that they don’t even know are sexual.”

Pattinson Sinks His Teeth Into the Character of Edward Cullen in 'Twilight'
One word can pretty much sum up Twilight star Robert Pattinson's acting style: intense. Pattinson analyzed his character of Edward Cullen, a 17 year old vampire who falls in love with a human named Bella (played by Kristen Stewart), in Twilight to an almost obsessive level. Pattinson had disagreements with Twilight author Stephenie Meyer over Edward, would engage in intense conversations with Stewart over the relationship between Edward and Bella, and even would stop in the middle of scenes to question director Catherine Hardwicke over exactly how a line should be delivered. Pattinson took the role extremely seriously, never wanting to play Edward as just the love interest in a teen vampire movie. Oh yes, he's definitely intense.
Pattinson's being launched into stardom with his lead role in Twilight and pretty much every move the actor makes these days is being scrutinized and reported on by fansites and celebrity magazines. There's a lot riding on the film adaptation of Meyer's bestselling novel, including the question of whether or not movies will be made of the other three books in the Twilight series – New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. At the Los Angeles press junket for Twilight, Pattinson discussed how he approached the character and why it was so important to him that he get Edward right.
Initial Twilight Fan Reaction Not so Warm for Pattinson, Stewart, and Gathegi

Now that the Twilight faithful have gotten the chance to see the cast in posters, trailers and still images, the overall reaction to the casting choices is positive. But this was far from the case at the get-go.
Message boards, fan sites and blogs were awash with venom when the largely unknown cast was first announced for the adaptation of book one of Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular Twilight series. As any regular internet surfer has surely observed, the more rabid the fan base, the more outright cruel the comments tend to get.
Speaking to the cast of Twilight this weekend, the group has managed to emerge unscathed, winning over the fans bit by bit in the months leading up to the November 21st release. But each has had their fare share of mixed emotions about first being introduced to the fan base.

At Saturday's "Twilight" extravaganza -- otherwise known as a press junket -- I was able to glean a few more tidbits about Robert Pattinson. Cheers!
Asked what he misses most about his pre-fame life, Rob said he already misses getting to play his music live: "I used to love playing live at open mic nights. It'd be cathartic. I mean it was really key for me," he explained. Now that a few of his performances have been captured on YouTube, however, he's a lot less keen to take the stage. In fact, he's pretty sad about it. "I think, 'Wow, I just lost a huge chunk of my life.' "

Robert Pattinson: Interview With the 'Twilight' Vampire
08 Nov 2008 | Comments (0)
Entertainment Weekly By Karen Valby
The 22-year-old British actor got off to a rocky start with =fans when he was cast -- but what a difference a year makes. Now the darling of the Stephenie Meyer universe, the question becomes: Is he ready for the rush of fame?
Less than a year ago, Robert Pattinson, a British actor known only for a small part in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was picked to play Edward, the brooding, beautiful vampire at the center of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight saga. Fans revolted immediately. They were furious over the surprise casting of a relative unknown who failed to live up to their idea of the immaculate demigod from their book's dog-eared pages. By the time Pattinson's mother told him she'd read online that her only son was wretched and ugly and had the face of a gargoyle, the author found herself awash in guilt. ''I apologized to Rob,'' says Meyer, ''for ruining his life.''
But teenage girls have their mood swings. It wasn't long before the Twilight universe — 17 million worldwide readers addicted to the tortured romance between Edward and a mortal schoolgirl named Bella — embraced the 22-year-old actor. Twilight won't hit theaters until Nov. 21. (The series' debatable reputation as ''the next Harry Potter'' was reinforced when The Half-Blood Prince jumped to next summer and Twilight slid happily into its old release date.) Still, this past July, when the cast participated in a hype-building panel at the Comic-Con festival, all Pattinson had to do was smile or shift in his seat to send the thousands of besotted girls into fits of red-faced screaming. After the panel, the shaken actor bruised some tender hearts when he likened the sound of the collective squeal to something one might hear when entering ''the gates of hell.'' Fame, clearly, would take getting used to. ''There is going to be a group of girls who will follow his actions from now on,'' says Meyer. ''I asked the producer, 'Is Rob ready for this? Have you guys prepped him? Is he ready to be the It Guy?' I don't think he really is. I don't think he sees himself that way. And I think the transition is going to be a little rocky.''

In the second part of our fan-powered Robert Pattinson interview (Part I is here), Rob talks -- and giggles -- about reading his fan mail (yup, he reads a lot of it), that crazy trip to Mexico, playing Salvador Dali in "Little Ashes" and what he likes best about himself.
Again, if your question didn't make it this time, I'll be talking to the cast Saturday, and I'll make a final attempt to get some in. I'll also be speaking with Kristen Stewart at length, so any lingering questions for her should go in the comments section below.
Come back Saturday when the winner of this week's Caption This! contest is announced.
Do you read the fan mail?
Yeah. I do that quite a lot actually, because I get batches sent from London. I go through tons and tons of it at a time. I get sent some good stuff. I’ve gotten some really good books. I had this amazing thing made by a fan website, this really amazing bound book with all of these notes inside it. I mean, it must have taken ages to make. I remember thinking, "Why?" (laughs). But, no, it was amazing. Someone sent me a book I’m reading right now, a book of Charles Baudelaire poems. I thought, "Wow, I was going to buy that." That was nice.
Q&A: Twilight’s Robert Pattinson
07 Nov 2008 | Comments (0)
Vanity Fair By Cassandra Handley
Robert Pattinson, 22, plays Edward Cullen, a young, non-human-preying vampire and Bella Swan’s love interest. He fights James’s coven of vampires in order to protect Bella from being bitten. Pattinson starred as Cedric Diggory in both Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and played a young Salvador Dalí in the independent film Little Ashes.
VF Daily: Had you read the Twilight books before getting the script? Robert Pattinson: Not in their entirety before getting the script, no. I did my screen test, had the weekend before my next meeting for it, and read all three over one weekend.
What was your impression of the books at first? Well, I obviously really liked them, but it is always strange reading a book knowing that I am hopefully going to play the part. It’s read in a very different context.

Or should I say: Only 15 days left. This is the home stretch, “Twilight” fans. In celebration, here's Part 1 of our Robert Pattinson fan special. I did my best to cram as many of the questions all of you submitted into the interview, and I must say, he was a pretty good sport....
You guys wanted to know what he put in his hair -- I asked him. You guys wanted to know about filming the love scenes with Kristen -- he revealed that Kristen's got one heck of a dark side!
Of course, I did not get to all of the questions. There were hundreds. But if you don't see it answered here, know that there's still Part 2 coming, and I'll have a chance to ask a few more at the press junket this Saturday, so do stay tuned!
As you can see, he had a serious case of the giggles Tuesday morning:
What goes through your mind when you’re greeted by crowds of screaming fans?
It’s kind of like being in some medieval battle (laughs). I mean I guess that’s the closest analogy, especially after yesterday. A ton of people ran down the street outside the Apple store. I felt like I was literally being charged by Celts (laughs).
On the scene: 'Twilight' Q&A with Robert Pattinson and Catherine Hardwicke
04 Nov 2008 | Comments (0)
EW.com by Amy Wilkinson
For all the swooning, declarations of love, and marriage proposals proffered last night, it would have been easy to imagine oneself in the midst of a French restaurant on Valentine's Day -- instead of the gray-walled mezzanine of a New York City Apple store. But that's just the effect Twilight star Robert Pattinson has on his rabid teen -- and adult -- fans, some of whom waited in line for more than 12 hours to be dazzled by the heartthrob during a Q&A session with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke.
I've been to enough Twilight events to know what to expect: screaming girls -- lots of them. Though this wasn't my first time at the vampire rodeo, even I was worried about one young Twilight-hoodie-bedecked teen sitting behind me, who was shaking so violently I thought she might go in to convulsions. And as if to work her and her fellow acolytes into even more of a frenzy, the 22-year-old Pattinson arrived a fashionable 15 minutes late -- and with his signature tousled tresses covered by a gray beanie (a development that left me a wee bit disappointed). However, it took just one shy "hello" from the Brit for any tardy transgressions to be quickly forgotten.
The hour-long session was a mix of moderator Donna Fredykin's questions, and queries from the crowd (including somewhat uncomfortable probes into the Brit's taste in women and whether he like likes co-star Kristen Stewart). A few of the juicy tidbits, after the jump.
Pattinson will not be pulling a Joaquin Phoenix any time soon. Though the actor dabbles in music (read what we had to say about his Twilight track here), he doesn't plan on releasing an album in the near future.
Rob isn't the only actor who had a hand in the soundtrack. The melancholy Iron & Wine ditty "Flightless Bird, American Mouth," which accompanies the prom scene, was chosen by Pattinson's co-star Kristen Stewart.
The first Twilight script Hardwicke read was very different from what we'll be seeing in theaters come Nov. 21. "The very first sentence in the script we threw away was, 'Bella was a track star,' " Hardwicke explained. "In, like, the second page, she was eating in the diner with James.'' What?!?
Pattinson is a member of...Team Jacob?!? "I'd go with Jacob," Pattinson said. "Jacob is way more interesting...If you have a girlfriend that's like Edward...yeah, you're hot and everything, but just shut up."
What do Pattinson and Edward have in common? "I always get carried away when I'm kissing people," Pattinson quipped. "I think you're making their night right now," Hardwicke joked.
And just as quickly as he'd made their year night, the fans' beloved vamp was whisked into the dark streets of SoHo, though not before the crowd collectively lurched toward the exit, bombarding the star with photo and autograph requests and, much to the chagrin of the poor Apple folks, ignoring the Twilight trailer meant to distract them long enough for Pattinson to make his getaway.

Instead, it was Twilight's brooding vampire Robert Pattinson, accompanied by director Catherine Hardwicke, who drew a packed and very loud crowd at the Soho Apple store Monday night for a fan Q&A about his vampire film based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer.
The audience, made up mostly of screaming girls, went nuts when Pattinson showed up, shrieking "I love you" to the British thespian. Pattinson responded with a bemused "thank you" to very boisterous declarations of adoration, but told the ladies he's no polished hunk.
"I haven't washed my hair in about six weeks," said Pattinson, 22. "It's disgusting."
Vampire pals hang out in the 'Twilight'

Their vampire characters shun human blood. The young actors are a similarly civilized group, having spent so much quality time together.
Robert Pattinson has all the traits of a Hollywood heartthrob -- photogenic features, a lovely British accent and a starring role as the brooding but devastatingly handsome good guy vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight,” the big-screen adaptation of the first installment in author Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful young-adult book series due in theaters Nov. 21.
The only thing that doesn't quite fit? Pattinson is one seriously self-deprecating guy.
"I can't watch myself on screen," said the 22-year-old actor, who previously appeared as Cedric Diggory in the "Harry Potter" films. "When my parents say, 'Oh, did you see this photo?' I immediately start going, 'Don't tell me about photos!' I haven't watched anything since the premiere of 'Harry Potter.' And that's because I couldn't find a way out.

As promised, here is the early edition of the paper's Sunday story on "Twilight." Times writer Gina McIntyre spent a sunny afternoon -- read: scorching hot at 100 degrees F -- with the actors who play three Cullen sibs: Robert Pattinson (Edward), Kellan Lutz (Emmett) and Nikki Reed (Rosalie).
She learned about Robert's "embarrassing" on-set injury...
For the movie's action sequences, the actors experimented with stunts and wire work, which Pattinson admits did not play to his strengths. "I got injured on the first shot of the first day," he said. "I wasn't even doing a stunt. I was just trying to pick up Kristen and I almost tore my hamstring because I hadn't been doing enough squats. It was very embarrassing."
...and what the boys did to wind down...
"When we did have those hard days," added Lutz, 23, "we would go back to Rob's room. He had a couple of guitars in there and a lot of great music. It was really fun being able to relax and have the cast come together, having that time just to bond and not really be actors but friends."

Last month, my Times colleague Gina McIntyre got to interview several of the vampires from "Twilight" for a story on the upcoming film. Of course, much of her lengthy conversation with Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz didn't make the final version. (That story hits stands Sunday, but I'll be posting it early Friday just for you guys. Call it "Twilight" at 9 a.m. Don't forget!)
Gina has agreed to shower us with the uncensored bits you won't find in the paper from now until the premiere. First up, Pattinson reveals that talking to his fans is "always kind of nice." That looks like an invitation to me.
Here's an excerpt:
For someone who can’t go to a shopping mall without getting mobbed, Robert Pattinson seems awfully uncomfortable in the spotlight. The actor told The Times he hates to watch himself on screen, though he said he might make an exception for “Twilight.”
“I am kind of curious. I guess now the character has become this semi-iconic thing to quite a lot of people.”

Robert Pattinson finds himself a recognizable star even before the movie version of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" opens Nov. 21. Ever since news broke of his being cast as Edward Cullen, the romantic 17-year-old vampire hero of the tween-popular book series, the 22-year-old actor is known wherever he goes in Britain.
"It's one of these phenomena that come out of nowhere, and everything about your career is completely different," he says. "Every 13-year-old girl in the entire country has read this, and you can almost guarantee wherever you go you'll hear, 'Oh my god! It's Edward Cullen.' "
Pattinson isn't worried that "Twilight" will define his career. "I'm sort of signed on for another two, but it's all dependent on what happens at the box office," he says. And unlike what happened to Bela Lugosi, Pattinson knows he won't be playing Edward Cullen when he's middle-aged.
"The thing is he doesn't age, which means I can't really play 17 forever."
Twilight's Rob Pattinson Gets Mobbed in Mexico

The chicas in Mexico City went understandably nuts when Twilight star and pretty boy Robert Pattinson landed at the airport—he's reportedly in town to promote the movie.
But the British actor handled himself pretty well, even in the face of an assault by sombrero. It's fairly impressive, considering they probably didn't cover hat attacks in media training 101.
'Twilight' star shines in film, 'How to Be'

The Lariat Online By Kelli Boesel Entertainment Editor
After a long day at the Austin Film Festival, I was ready to sit down, relax and enjoy a full-length feature film. Unfortunately, not all my wishes were fulfilled. I did enjoy "How to Be," but it was far from a relaxing experience.
Since the movie theater was 15 minutes away from downtown Austin, I decided to leave early to make sure I found the place. To my surprise, I pulled up to the theater and found two lines wrapping around the building.
After getting in line, I found out director and writer Oliver Irving and actor Robert Pattinson would be at the screening of the film to hold a question and answer session after the movie. After shamelessly eavesdropping on several conversations, I discovered the attraction of the film; Pattinson plays Edward Cullen in "Twilight." With a few exceptions, everyone in line was eager to meet the actor.
Finally, after two hours standing in line, we were ushered into the theater.
'Twilight' Countdown: Exclusive Robert Pattinson photo

LA Times By Denise Martin
29 days left...
In today's gift bag we have this exclusive shot of Robert Pattinson taken earlier this month for an upcoming story about "Twilight" in The Times. Publish date: Nov. 2. Write it down.)
You're welcome.
I now welcome your thoughts on it. The facial hair, I think, is very un-Edward. (Could Bella's marble prince even grow facial hair? It seems unlikely). But do we like it just the same? Does it make Robert sexier? More smoldering?
Or just too Wolverine?
Perhaps he's sporting the new look in the name of Spunk Ransom's next Whiskey A Go-Go gig.
Leave your theories and thoughts below. We'll duke it out.
Also, I forgot to mention in Tuesday's launch post that the Countdown updates will be posted every day at 2 pm.
'Twilight' Tuesday: Anna Kendrick Says It Was 'Easy To Get Googly Eyed' At Robert Pattinson

'I would be fighting these almost, like, church giggles,' she says of filming scenes with RPattz.
SANTA MONICA, California — Happy "One Month Until 'Twilight' Day," everybody! If you haven't gotten yourself a cake yet, please rush out to your nearest bakery immediately.
To help you celebrate, indie darling Anna Kendrick stopped by the MTV studios recently for her very own "Twilight" Tuesday. A fun, sweet, down-to-earth actress whose career is moving along almost as quickly as she spoke in last year's "Rocket Science," Kendrick was eager to talk to us about her role as Bella's bud Jessica Stanley, making googly eyes at Rob Pattinson, and her undying love for things wrapped in pancakes.
Three reasons Robert Pattinson should host 'SNL'

EW.com by Amy Wilkinson
Here at PopWatch, we're staunch supporters of thoughful debate, citizen activism, rocking the vote, and all such democratic ideals. So when we heard that Twilight fans have organized a petition to nominate their patron vampire saint Edward Cullen (also known as actor Robert Pattinson) for a hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, we felt it was our duty to bring this matter to the people. And since the best voter is a well-informed voter, we've put together the top three reasons why Pattinson should appear on the sketch show stage:
1. It would be good for the economy: In these lean times, everyone's looking to save a buck or two -- even big networks like NBC -- and in Rob you get not only a host, but a musical guest to boot. And after my exclusive preview of the Twilight soundtrack, which includes Pattinson's song "Never Think," I can whole-heartedly endorse the vamp's vocal prowess.
2. The inevitable Twilight parody: Pregnant Amy Poehler (as Bella Swan) + Rob = Breaking Dawn fabulousity. I wonder if Amy can vomit blood on cue?
3. He's just plain fun to look at
So, PopWatchers, are you going to add your John Hancock to the Rob-on-SNL petition? If he does land the gig, got any sketch suggestions?
Robert Pattinson shows “How To Be” a star

Blast Magazine By Liz McClendon
Apparently Robert Pattinson has discovered the secret to quick success in film.
Pattinson, 22, previously best known as Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, and soon to be best known for his leading role as the dazzling Edward Cullen in “Twilight”, stars in “How to Be” - an independent film currently showing only at film festivals.
Pattinson plays Art, a socially awkward failing musician going through a quarter-life crisis. Despite the departure from his typical supernaturally attractive characters, fangirls still flock in the thousands to see Rob play a normal guy (sub-normal, even). Twilight fans have been a big portion of the audiences viewing the movie on selected screens around the world.

Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen in Twilight

Makeup411 Make-up by Jeanne Van Phue
Actor Robert Pattinson had to wear colored contact lenses every day of filming in order to achieve the golden eyes and black eyes described in the book. “At the beginning, [director] Catherine [Hardwicke] visualized Edward in long hair…After studying his face and jaw line in the make-up test, the decision was made to go with short hair to accentuate his amazing jaw line,” said Van Phue.
Van Phue was asked to keep the principals pale, but to stay away from a Sweeney Todd or Interview with a Vampire-type make-up, so she chose a denser, more opaque look for the supporting vampires and a lighter look for the leading man (“He’s got to look fabulous,” she explained). The key was striking a delicate shading balance: “All of the vampires are pale, but I didn’t want them to look ghoulish,” she said. “I didn’t want to contour, but I didn’t want them to fade away, either.”
The biggest challenge on the set was the rain. “We were outside all the time, and it rained the entire time we were there,” Van Phue said. “Most of the shots were exterior, and trying to fix make-up in the rain with wet face and wet brush was difficult.” The experience made her a convert to SK-II airbrush make-up. “It goes on flawlessly—no smudges or streaks,” she said. “And I accidentally found out it was waterproof.”

Robert Pattinson on his 'Twilight' songs: 'Music is my backup plan if acting fails'
10 Oct 2008 | Comments (0)
LA Times by: Gina McIntyre
Heartthrob Robert Pattinson not only stars in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance, “Twilight,” out Nov. 21, he's contributed two songs to the film, one of which, “Never Think” will be included on the official soundtrack.
But the self-effacing Brit insists that the songs’ inclusion was wholly accidental; a mysterious third party slipped director Catherine Hardwicke a copy of his recordings without his knowledge and she opted to include them, surprising Pattinson when he turned up to see some early footage.
“When I went to see the cut,” Pattinson said during an interview Wednesday afternoon, “she’d put these two songs in. They’re old songs, but one of them specifically, it really made the scene better. It was like it was supposed to be there. It’s strange because what was supposed to be at that point in the movie was a big orchestral film climax. Instead it’s this little song with acoustic guitar. I’m singing it, maybe that makes it different, but it’s kind of overwhelming. I hope it’s overwhelming.”
Although many actors try to work in film and television while juggling careers in the pop arena, Pattinson insists he won’t be one of them. “That’s what I was scared about, it looks like I’m trying to get a music career out of it or something,” he said. “I’ve never really recorded anything -- I just played in pubs and stuff –- and I really didn’t want it to look like I was trying to cash in. I hope it doesn’t come across as that. I’m not going to be doing any music videos or anything. Music is my backup plan if acting fails. I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket.”
Judging from the level of anticipation surrounding his first major starring vehicle, he might not have too much to worry about. On the music front, though, Pattinson will be sharing the soundtrack's track listing with Linkin Park, Muse, Paramore, Iron & Wine and Perry Farrell, among others.
Five Things You Didn’t Know About Robert Pattinson

The Frisky by: Amelia
For starters, you might not actually know much of anything about the model-turned-actor who was once a Daily Hotness. First spotted as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies, the 22-year old is sure to be the next big thing thanks to the upcoming vampire movie “Twilight” (based on the series of novels by Stephanie Meyer), in which Pattinson plays lead vamp Edward Cullen. He’s been dubbed “the next Jude Law” by the British press, but what more is there to know about this hunk across the pond? Oh, so much.
1. Apparently, his favorite curse word is “tike”, an offensive British term which refers to a “crude, ill-bred person who lacks culture or refinement.” In America, we would call him a snob! (A sexy snob though.)
2. When he was young, his sisters used to dress him up as a girl and call him “Claudia”. I love the name Claudia—it’s so ‘80s. I think it needs to be brought back.
3. He finds Ugg boots to be a very unattractive fashion statement. Guess he won’t be dating most of young Hollywood then...
4. His fans now call him “Spunk Ransom” or “Ransom Spunk” in an interview with MTV, he requested it, saying that he hates the name “Robert”. I suspect he was joking about those particular names, but you know how rabid fans are about taking their idol’s words literally.
5. He’s a rebel and was expelled from school at the age of 12, conveniently also the same age when he had his first kiss. Was he perhaps expelled for necking AT school?
New names, familiar ones top poll of 25 young stars

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - They range from big stars like Daniel Radcliffe and Miley Cyrus to relative unknowns such as Gemma Arterton of new James Bond flick "Quantum of Solace," but one thing they have in common is being young and hot in Hollywood, according to an online poll released on Wednesday.
AOL's Moviefone.com offered its list of top 25 stars under age 25, and among popular celebrities including Oscar-nominated Keira Knightley, 23, and young Dakota Fanning, 14, there were up-and-comers such as Christopher Mintz-Plasse, 19, a.k.a. McLovin of last year's movie comedy sensation, "Superbad."
"There are several returning people, but what's really exciting is there's this whole new crop coming up," said Moviefone editor-in-chief Scott Robson.
"We look at what they've done in the past, but we're mostly concerned with what they have coming over the course of the next year and where it positions them," he added.
Michael Cera, 20, for instance had two break-out movie hits last year with "Superbad" and Oscar-nominated teen pregnancy comedy "Juno," and he'll follow that up this year with October's "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist," in which for the first time he is the star expected to lure fans to theaters.
Arterton, 22, is a bit different. Plucked from the ranks of British television actresses to be the new "Bond Girl" in Quantum of Solace, she also stars in director Guy Ritchie's new flick, "RocknRolla."
Other newcomers include Robert Pattison, 22, who had appeared in small roles in two previous "Harry Potter" films, but has a major part in upcoming vampire flick "Twilight," as well as his co-star in that movie, Kristen Stewart, 18.
"Transformers" stars Shia LaBeouf, 22, and Megan Fox, 22, also made the list, as did Ellen Page, 21, of "Juno" fame, Zac Efron, 20, from "High School Musical," Emma Watson, 18, of the "Harry Potter" movies and "Gossip Girl's" Blake Lively, 21.
