How actress Rachelle Lefevre got bitten by "Twilight"
19 Mar 2009 | Comments (0) |
Seattle Times By Rick Bentley
The smash hit movie "Twilight" arrives on DVD at midnight on Friday. In this interview, Rachelle Lefevre, who plays Victoria, describes her first encounter with Stephenie Meyer's book.
LOS ANGELES — Rachelle Lefevre loved that she got to vamp it up as Victoria in "Twilight."
She loved all of the stunt work she got to do as the super-powered, blood-drinking vampire. And it didn't hurt that she's a fan of vampire books. The first time she read Bram Stroker's "Dracula," she finished it and immediately started reading it again. She reacted the same way when she discovered the "Twilight" books.
If you missed Lefevre's work in last year's movie, it is scheduled to be released on DVD this week. Based on the popular Stephenie Meyer book, it goes on sale at midnight Friday.
The film, about a high school girl who falls for a vampire, made more than $350 million at the box offices around the globe. Lefevre's Victoria is merely a supporting player in the first film. She could play a more pivitol role in the the film sequel, set to open in November, if the script follows the plot of the book "New Moon."
The Canadian actress has showed up at the small room in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for an interview to discuss the movie's theatrical release. She's dressed in a black jacket and black hot pants. The outfit is a stark contrast to her pale skin. It is just as big a contrast to her long red hair that hangs past her shoulders.
This is a far different look than she had back in her own high school days.
"My awkward stage extended well into high school," Lefevre says. "Dating and getting attention from boys was something that came later to me. I actually did not have a date to my prom. I ended up taking a friend."
She vividly recalls walking the halls in high school, seeing a certain guy she liked and hearing cheesy music playing in her head.
That's why she can relate to the young love part of the movie, especially the film's central lovers Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson).
"The thing that I liked watching about Rob and Kristen was the same thing I love about the books," Lefevre says. "It is not all about romance. They bicker. They get frustrated with each other."
Lefevre, 30, started acting when she was 20. Her biggest roles have been on television shows like "Life on a Stick" and "What About Brian."
And now a "New Moon" is rising.

Fans out for blood over vampire casting
06 Dec 2008 | Comments (0) |
The Ottawa Citizen by Jamie Portman
Twilight controversy smoothed over by quick-witted actor
BEVERLY HILLS, California - Edi Gathegi may play a villain in the film version of Twilight, but he's a villain that fans of Stephenie Meyer's stories adore.
And when his casting as Laurent, the suave vampire with a taste for human rather than animal blood, was first announced, those fans weren't happy. Gathegi freely admits the reason for this hostility. He was the wrong colour.
"I saw that the fans were sort of disgruntled about my casting because Stephenie doesn't necessarily have an African-American in the book," he says cheerfully. But he quickly found a solution to the problem.

'Twilight' Sequel 'New Moon' Will Be Dark And 'Spectacular,' Stars And Director Say
24 Nov 2008 | Comments (1) |
MTV by Larry Carroll
With werewolves, motorcycles, Italy and cliff-diving, the cast and crew have their work cut out for them.
And so, the lion fell in love with the lamb. But as $70.5 million worth of moviegoers watched the closing scenes of "Twilight" this past weekend, one thought unavoidably filled their love-struck minds: Where do Edward, Bella and all the other undead denizens of Forks go from here?
As Twilighters are all too happy to point out, author Stephenie Meyer has already penned three smash sequels to her intimate ode to human-immortal romance. The first, "New Moon," got the green light for production this past weekend, less than 24 hours after "Twilight" began breaking box-office records. The best-selling sequel tells a decidedly darker story that has Bella receiving a nasty paper cut, getting attacked by one of her potential in-laws and becoming an adrenaline junkie while an in-hiding Edward teeters on the edge of suicide.

'Twilight' actors chat about the movie experience
20 Nov 2008 | Comments (0) |
Seattle PI by MOISES MENDOZA
In Seattle to promote "Twilight," the three actors seemed somewhat starstruck themselves.
At the airport they were chased by paparazzi. Then, later in the day, they were besieged by screaming teenage girls at a local mall.
During a brief interview, Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefèvre and Edi Gathegi, who all have minor roles in the film, were eager to talk about the filming process -- as well as "Twilight" devotees.
"It's just amazing how into this the fans are," marveled Lautner, 16, who admits that he's enjoying all the attention.

Love bites: The young stars of Twilight talk about bringing the beloved vampire novel to life
19 Nov 2008 | Comments (0) |
Houston Chronicle by Jemimah Noonoo
It's a story of girl meets boy. But not just any boy. Boy is an "impossibly beautiful'' Adonis. His skin is like marble and glitters in the sunlight. He has superhuman strength and speed and is an accomplished piano player. He can put girls in a trance with his voice and smile and scent. Talk about pheromones.
What's not to love?
Well, he doesn't eat food. He never sleeps, and he doesn't breathe. He's dead. He lives off the blood of other creatures.
He is Edward Cullen, the hottie at the heart of Twilight, the greatly anticipated vampire flick, which finally opens tomorrow. Twilight could be big, maybe Harry Potter big.

Movies: Actors mirror fan devotion to 'Twilight'
18 Nov 2008 | Comments (0) |
The Salt Lake Tribune By Sheena McFarland
Fans of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" saga have been swept up in the romance of an average teenager and the godlike vampire who falls madly in love with her.
Readers from elementary schools and retirement homes alike feverishly read through the four books. But it didn't stop there: Women (and some men) across the globe started talking to one another about their love of the characters. The contemporary vampire-human love story has blossomed into a worldwide pop cultural phenomenon, seemingly leaving no one untouched -- not even the film's actors.
"We had read all the books by the time we had gotten on set, and we were already fans," said Rachelle Lefevre, who plays a vengeful vampire named Victoria. "We wanted to get it right because we all fell in love with the books."
The movie's young cast soon found they were part of something bigger than just another movie, but part of a cult with a ravenous fan base that was, at first, difficult to handle.

Q&A: Twilight’s Rachelle Lefevre
07 Nov 2008 | Comments (0) |
Vanity Fair By Cassandra Handley
Rachelle Lefevre, 29, plays Victoria, a fiery, feline-esque vampire who assists her lover and leader, James, in hunting Bella Swan. Lefevre has also been seen this year in bit parts on prime-time television shows such as Swingtown, Boston Legal, and Life on Mars.
VF Daily: Had you read the “Twilight” books before getting the script? Rachelle Lefevre: I hadn’t. I heard about the audition first, and all I saw for the audition was the appointment sheet. It had a little breakdown on it, and I can’t remember exactly what it said, but it was something along the lines of “Victoria: fiery, red-haired, evil, nomadic vampire.” And I was like, I have to play this part. So I ran right out to the bookstore and I bought Twilight. I read it in two and a half days. I was absolutely hooked.
What did you do to prepare for your role? I read all three books available at the time, got as much information from the books as I could about Victoria, and then sat down and put together a fake backstory on who she was before she was a vampire. I realized that vampires are unique because they are humans first and they were not born monsters. So I thought, How do I bring that kind of humanness and a kind of humanity into playing a vampire? As a result, when I found myself playing the “evil” part, I could not look at her as a monster. I can’t play a character that I am judging. She clearly doesn’t see herself as evil, so what is it about her? What came of this thought process was that she is a kind of menace.
